Series status: The Sea Dogs lead the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 1-0 in the best-of-seven President Cup Final series.
Last game: The Sea Dogs took Game 1 of the series 6-3 last night at Harbour Station. Matthew Highmore and Julien Gauthier both scored twice while singles came from Mathieu Joseph and Nathan Noel. TJ Melancon scored twice for the Armada while Morgan Adams-Moisan added a solo marker. Callum Booth made 24 saves in the win. Samuel Montembeault made 22 stops in the loss.
2016-17 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs were 1-0-1-0 against the Armada during the regular season while Blainville-Boisbriand went 1-1-0-0 against Saint John.
Ex-Sea Dogs on the Armada: None
Random stat: With Matthew Highmore's goal last night, the Sea Dogs have scored six shorthanded goals this post-season, a league high.
Three Things to Know
1. Saint John's penalty kill was busy but effective last night, keeping the Armada off the scoreboard on six chances.
2. The Armada have proven this post-season that they are able to rebound from loses and adversity. This could be a statement game for either team.
3. This series features two of the best goaltenders in the QMJHL, making the nine total goals (eight, technically) in the game a bit of a surprise. Surely goals won't be as easy to come by in other games in this series.
Notes: Mathieu Joseph leads Saint John in scoring with 25 points and goals with 12... Thomas Chabot leads the team in assists with 15... Alex Barre-Boulet leads the Armada and league in scoring with 30 points. He also leads the team in goals with 14 and assists with 16... Saint John is 7-0-1 at home... Blainville-Boisbriand is 5-4 on the road... Chabot leads all defencemen in scoring with 20 points... Spencer Smallman has points in six straight games.
