Pre-Season Game Day 2: at Moncton

FREDERICTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats are set to meet again.

The two provincial rivals faced off in St. Stephen on Wednesday night with the Sea Dogs skating away with a 4-1 victory. Tonight, the two will meet in the provincial capital as the Wildcats host Saint John at UNB's Aitken Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Sea Dogs played three regular season games at the Aitken Centre last season, losing two of them. Tonight they will be the road team.

Saint John had a pretty strong showing on Wednesday but we'll likely see several lineup changes from both teams. Both squads still have quite a few cuts to make before final rosters are set.

This will be the fourth game of the pre-season for the Wildcats but just the second for the Sea Dogs. These two won't meet again until Saint John's regular season home opener on Sept. 25 at TD Station.

Last games: The Sea Dogs and Wildcats met on Wednesday night in St. Stephen where Saint John posted a 4-1 win.  Jabez Seymour, Madison Bouchard, Ryan Howard and Kaiden Sahajpal all scored for Saint John. Brody Leet scored Moncton's lone goal. Sam Pitcher made 17 stops in the win. For Moncton, Jacoby Weiner played the first two periods and allowed three goals on 13 shots while Nathan Chenier played the third and allowed a goal on eight shots.

Pre-Season Game Day 1: vs Wildcats

ST. STEPHEN, NB - The Saint John Sea Dogs begin Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League pre-season play tonight against a familiar foe.

The Sea Dogs will host the Moncton Wildcats this evening at St. Stephen's Garcelon Civic Center, the opponent that swept them in the opening round of the QMJHL playoffs last season.

Both teams should look quite a bit different tonight. Both squads are at similar stages of training camp and have several cuts yet to make.

The Wildcats have already played two pre-season games, defeating the Newfoundland Regiment 6-4 last Friday before falling 8-2 to the Charlottetown Islanders on Saturday.

The Sea Dogs and Wildcats met last season in St. Stephen with Moncton posting a 4-1 win.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.

SAINT JOHN - After a heartbreaking loss in Game 2, the Saint John Sea Dogs will look to rebound on home ice.

The Sea Dogs were up 2-0 entering the final minute of play against the Moncton Wildcats on Saturday at Avenir Centre. Moncton pulled off an improbable comeback, scoring twice in the final minute and then winning in overtime to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven first round playoff series.

The Wildcats will look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead tonight at TD Station. Game 4 is Wednesday, also in Saint John.

It will be interesting to see how the Sea Dogs respond to Saturday's result. Saint John played a great road game against a superior opponent – and it still wasn't quite enough. We'll see if they're motivated by the close game or if it knocked the wind out of their sails.

You have to think the Wildcats will look for a better start tonight. The Sea Dogs have scored first in both games.

MONCTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs make their return to the playoffs this weekend at Avenir Centre.

The Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats will play the first two games of their best-of-seven first round series Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Both games have 7 p.m. starts.

This will be Saint John's first playoff appearance since the 2023-24 season and they have not won a playoff series since the 2017 QMJHL final. Moncton, meanwhile, are looking to repeat as league champions – and they've got a legitimate chance of doing so after posting a 104-point season.

The Wildcats are the heavy favourites to win this series. For the Sea Dogs, this is likely a series where they'll look for small victories. Can they win shifts. Can they win periods. Can they keep these games close. Most importantly, it'll be about gaining some experience for next season.

This is just the second playoff series between the provincial rivals. They last met in the 2010 QMJHL final, which Moncton won in six games.

SYDNEY, NS - The regular season comes to a close this weekend for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs will play a pair of road games against the Cape Breton Eagles to close out the 2025-26 season. Saint John has qualified for the post-season and is locked into the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference – but it's still not known who they'll play in the first round.

The Eagles, meanwhile, could still move up or down the standings depending on how things play out this weekend. These games (or at least Friday's, for now) do have meaning.

Both teams are on losing streaks. Saint John has lost four straight while Cape Breton has lost six.

This is the first meeting between the two since late November.

Friday's game has a 7 p.m. start at Centre 200 while Saturday's will begin at 3 p.m.

CHARLOTTETOWN - While the Saint John Sea Dogs have been entertaining to watch of late, wins have remained hard to come by.

The Sea Dogs carry a three-game losing streak into this afternoon's contest with the Charlottetown Islanders. Game time is 2 p.m. at Eastlink Centre.

This will be the third game in three days for Saint John and the second in less than 24 hours. The Sea Dogs allowed three third period goals in a 4-2 home loss to the Halifax Mooseheads yesterday at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs, who have just three regular season games remaining, will try and turn things around today. This will be the final meeting of the regular season between the Dogs and Isles. Saint John is 3-2-2-0 in the season series.

PEI native Jase MacPherson is expected to make his QMJHL debut in net for Saint John with Arseni Radkov suspended and Rafaël Courchesne having appeared in back-to-back games.

Radkov, Bresson suspended; MacPherson recalled

SAINT JOHN - Goaltenders Arseni Radkov and Owen Bresson have both been suspended following their Friday night fight.

The roster sheet for Saturday's rematch between the Saint John Sea Dogs and Halifax Mooseheads lists both goaltenders out of the lineup with suspensions – but no lengths were included. We'll have to wait for confirmation by the league on if the suspensions are more than a game.

UPDATE March 15: Radkov and Bresson have both been suspended five games by the QMJHL for a "fight involving a goaltender."

The fight took place during the second period of Friday's 5-4 Mooseheads win over the Sea Dogs at TD Station. The altercation began when Alexis Gauthier went hard to the net, which led to Bresson giving the Sea Dogs forward a few shots with his blocker. Radkov then made his way to his own blue line and was soon met in the neutral zone by Bresson.

Both were given two game misconducts: one for fighting and another for removing their own helmets/masks.

This was the first goalie fight in Sea Dogs franchise history.

With Radkov out, the Sea Dogs have recalled Jase MacPherson from the under-18 Kensington Wild. The Sea Dogs are lucky with the timing. The Wild are playing in the provincial final but have no games scheduled for Saturday or Sunday.

MacPherson, who turned 17 on Thursday, made 38 saves in Kensington's 3-2 win over the Charlottetown Knights in Game 1 of the provincial final on Friday.

MacPherson, a second-round pick of Saint John in last year's QMJHL Entry Draft, has been recalled previously to be a backup but has not seen any game action with the Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs are also in action on Sunday when they visit the Charlottetown Islanders.

Game Day 60 & 61: vs Mooseheads

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs will play their final home games of the regular season this weekend.

The Sea Dogs will host the Halifax Mooseheads tonight at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. The team will play three games on the road to finish the regular season, but this weekend's contests will be the team's final matches at TD Station until the playoffs.

Halifax sits one spot ahead of Saint John in the standings. But the Moose have an 11-point lead with five games to play, so the Sea Dogs won't be able to catch them. Saint John is locked into the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Sea Dogs will look to try and improve their home record in these final games. The team is 11-17-2-0 at TD Station this season.

MONCTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats meet one final time in regular season play today.

The Sea Dogs have won three of their past four games, which includes a big 5-3 upset win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Wednesday. 

The Wildcats, meanwhile, are 7-2-0-1 in their last 10 games as they continue to try and keep pace with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens for first-place in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League standings. The Wildcats enter play today one-point back of the Sags. Both teams have six games remaining.

The Sea Dogs, who clinched a playoff spot on Saturday night, are likely to play whichever teams finishes first overall. Today's game could be a playoff preview.

Jacob Beaulieu, Elliot Dubé and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada make their first and only appearance of the season in Saint John. Game time is 7 p.m.

This will be the final time the Sea Dogs face a Western Conference team this season. 

Saint John will look to rebound from a tough 5-4 home loss against the Charlottetown Islanders on Saturday, a loss that saw the Sea Dogs allow the game-winning goal in the final minute of the third period. The loss ended a two-game winning streak.

The Armada, who sit fourth overall in the QMJHL standings, are on a lengthy road trip that began Friday in Rimouski and continued Sunday in Charlottetown. They'll now play a three-in-three, visiting Saint John, Halifax and Moncton on consecutive nights.

SAINT JOHN - Can the Saint John Sea Dogs keep this momentum going?

That's the question facing the team tonight when they host the Charlottetown Islanders at 7 p.m. at TD Station. The Sea Dogs have won back-to-back games, which includes a big 5-2 win in Halifax last night.

Last night's contest was Brian Casey's first as Sea Dogs head coach. The team came ready to play, outshooting the Mooseheads 22-3 and leading 2-0 after the first period.

Now we'll see what Casey can do with this team on home ice, where the team has struggled for much of the season. They'll also be facing an Islanders team that carries a four-game winning streak, including back-to-back victories over the Moncton Wildcats.

It's Wrestling Night at TD Station and the Sea Dogs will be wearing special jerseys.

HALIFAX - Tonight's game in Halifax got a whole lot more interesting yesterday.

With coaches Travis Crickard and Mark Lee no longer with the Saint John Sea Dogs, the Brian Casey era officially begins tonight at Scotiabank Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.

Obviously, Casey will have had limited time to prepare the Sea Dogs for this game – but you never know what's going to happen in the first game after a coaching change. Teams often look reinvigorated in the first game.

The Sea Dogs are coming off a Quebec road trip that saw them drop the first two games before picking up a key regulation time win in Gatineau on Sunday.

The Mooseheads, meanwhile, have had some struggles in the second half but still sit nine points ahead of the Sea Dogs.

GATINEAU, QC - In what is certainly not the biggest hockey game being played today, the Saint John Sea Dogs will look to end their three-game road trip on a winning note at Slush Puppie Centre.

The Sea Dogs have dropped the first two games of this Quebec trip, losing in Shawinigan on Thursday and Sherbrooke on Friday. They carry a four-game road losing streak into this afternoon's game against the Gatineau Olympiques, which will have a 4 p.m. AT puck drop.

The Sea Dogs and Olympiques are separated by just four points, making this an important game for playoff positioning.

SHERBROOKE, QC - The Saint John Sea Dogs will be looking for a 60-minute performance tonight.

The Sea Dogs fell apart in the third period last night, allowing four goals and 17 shots in a 6-2 loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes. The Sea Dogs had played a fairly solid road game until the third.

Saint John will look for a better performance tonight against the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Game time is 8 p.m. AT.

The Phoenix sit nine points ahead of the Sea Dogs in the overall standings.

This is the second of three games for the Sea Dogs on this Quebec road trip. They close things out on Sunday in Gatineau.

SHAWINIGAN, QC - Can the Saint John Sea Dogs pull off another upset?

The Sea Dogs defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes 3-2 in overtime last Saturday at TD Station in a significant upset. The win ended a five-game losing streak for Saint John.

Now, the two will meet again – but this time in Shawinigan. Game time tonight is 8 p.m. AT.

The Cataractes sit 23 points ahead of the Sea Dogs in the standings, so Saint John will once again be the underdog in this meeting. The two are, oddly, heading in opposite directions right now with Shawinigan having lost four straight while Saint John has won back-to-back games.

This contest kicks off a three-game Quebec road trip for Saint John. They'll also visit Sherbrooke and Gatineau before returning home.

The Sea Dogs currently sit 15th overall with 41 points while the Tigres are 14th with 43 points. Saint John has played one more game than Victoriaville.

Game time on this Family Day Monday is 3 p.m. at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs are coming off a strange win over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday, a game that saw Jabez Seymour score all three goals in a 3-2 overtime victory. That ended a five-game losing streak for Saint John.

The Tigres, meanwhile, are wrapping up an unusual Maritime road trip. They played in Cape Breton on Friday and Saturday and are now stopping in Saint John before travelling home.

SAINT JOHN - What a night for Jabez Seymour.

Seymour entered the game with five goals on the entire season. On Saturday night, the Newfoundlander scored his first career QMJHL hat trick to lead the Saint John Sea Dogs to a 3-2 overtime win over the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Seymour opened the scoring in the first period, scored the game-tying goal with 25 seconds remaining in regulation and then netted the overtime winner. Hat tricks don't get much better than that.

The win ends a five-game losing streak for Saint John and a six-game home losing streak. They hadn't won at TD Station since early January.

The Sea Dogs struggled to generate chances for much of the night but found a push in the third period. Shots through 40 minutes were 25-15 in favour of Shawinigan but ended 34-30 in their favour.

Perhaps most impressive about this win are the circumstances it came under. Saint John was playing a man short and had to slide defenseman Everett Baldwin up front. The team also played this game under some fatigue, flying from St. John's to Halifax in the morning and not getting into Saint John until the early afternoon. The long day proved to be worth it.

Dogs missing several regulars vs Cataractes

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs have been forced to dress an unusual lineup tonight for their game against the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Forward Olivers Murnieks remains out with an injury while Maxime Côté and Angelo Fullerton will both serve one-game suspensions. Fullerton has been suspended for his slew footing match penalty on Thursday while Côté has been automatically suspended for an accumulation of fights.

Defenseman Carl-Otto Magnusson, meanwhile, will serve the second game of his two-game suspension for being an aggressor in Wednesday's game.

Affiliate defenseman Jesse Dunlap will play his second QMJHL game after debuting on Thursday. Cameron Chartrand, who has been in-and-out of the lineup with nagging back injury, is listed as the seventh defensemen.

The most notable move on defense is who is listed up front. The team has d-man Everett Baldwin playing wing on the third line.

In net, the team has called up affiliate Jase MacPherson from the Kensington Wild to be Rafaël Courchesne's backup. Arseni Radkov is listed as a healthy scratch. Not sure if that's just the Sea Dogs wanting to give MacPherson some exposure to the QMJHL or if there is more to it.

All of this brings up an odd situation: the Sea Dogs are poised to dress no import players and just one overage player.

Tonight's game begins at 7 p.m. at TD Station, which is also unexpected. Could be a weird night ahead.

Game Day 51: vs Cataractes

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs will look to snap a five-game losing tonight at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs are coming off what has turned into an eventful trip to Newfoundland. The Sea Dogs lost both games to the Regiment and were scheduled to return home on Friday. But a flight cancellation means they'll be flying into Halifax today, making the drive to Saint John and hosting the Shawinigan Cataractes at 7 p.m.

Tonight's game was originally scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. but was pushed back due to the Sea Dogs' travel issues.

The Sea Dogs were already in for a challenging game – the Cataractes sit fifth overall in the QMJHL standings – and the travel issues probably won't help things.

The Cataractes are on a four-game Maritime road trip. They lost in Charlottetown on Wednesday and in Halifax on Thursday.

ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Saint John Sea Dogs will look to turn things around at Mary Brown's Centre this week.

The Sea Dogs have just one win over their past eight games and have lost three straight. Saint John has been better on the road than at home this season though, so perhaps a trip to Newfoundland is just what they need.

Saint John will take on the Regiment tonight and tomorrow night in downtown St. John's. Both games have 6:30 p.m. AT starts.

These will be the final meetings of the season between the Sea Dogs and Regiment. Saint John has yet to beat Newfoundland this season and are 0-2 at Mary Brown's Centre.
