Alumdate: Ex-Dogs playing in the QMJHL

Two former Saint John Sea Dogs had their seasons come to an end this weekend.

Nathan Larose and Dawson Stairs, members of the Cape Breton Eagles, will not be advancing to the President Cup playoffs. Cape Breton's season - the first of a rebuild - came to an end on Friday with another loss to the Charlottetown Islanders.

As an overager this was Larose's final season of junior hockey. The defenseman led the Eagles in the scoring with 33 points. His 17 goals were the most for a defenseman in the QMJHL this season.

Stairs was traded to Cape Breton mid-season. After recording three goals and five assists in 13 first half games with the Sea Dogs, the Fredericton native took off with the Eagles, registering 12 goals and nine assists in 21 contests.

Joshua Roy also led his new team in scoring. The 2021 NHL Draft eligible forward had 13 goals and five assists in 20 games with the Phoenix.

Alex Drover, also traded near the deadline, slowed down quite a bit after a blistering start with the Oceanic. Drover recorded just one point - a goal - in his final 12 regular season games.

Goaltender Creed Jones made 12 appearances in the Rimouski net, posting a 4-7 record to go along with a 3.31 goals against average and a .869 save percentage.

Former Saint John Vito's netminder Frederic Plourde, who was an emergency backup with the Sea Dogs last season but never saw any game action, played 16:07 in an Eagles game on April 2, making seven saves.

Looking ahead to the playoff matchups involving alumni, Val-d'Or will face Baie-Comeau; Sherbrooke will take on Chicoutimi; and Rimouski will battle Shawinigan. Moncton will join Bathurst and Saint John in the nine-game round-robin tournament to see who advances to play Charlottetown.
