Game Day 12: at Gatineau

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
GATINEAU, QC - The Saint John Sea Dogs begin a three-in-three Quebec road trip tonight in Gatineau.

This is Saint John's first trek into Quebec this season. They'll face the Gatineau Olympiques tonight before travelling to take on the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Game time tonight at Slush Puppie Centre is 8 p.m. Atlantic.

The Sea Dogs are looking to rebound from a rough weekend on home ice that saw them lose to the Cape Breton Eagles and Val-d'Or Foreurs. Saturday's loss to Cape Breton ended a five-game winning streak for the Sea Dogs.

Gatineau and Saint John have very similar records so this could be an entertaining game.

Stream/TV/Radio: FloHockey/None/Sea Dogs Audio Network

2026-27 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 6-3-1-1 for 14 points (fifth Eastern/ninth QMJHL) while the Olympiques are 6-3-2-1 for 15 points (fourth Western/seventh QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Val-d'Or Foreurs on Sunday. Brandon Delarosbil scored Saint John's lone goal. Samuel Meloche was pulled after allowing two goals on three shots while Rafaël Courchesne allowed a goal on 21 shots in relief. The Olympiques are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss in Rimouski on Saturday. Noah Florent, Gabriel Séguin and Louis-Étienne Halley all scored for Gatineau. Finn Moffett made 24 saves in the loss.

Remparts land 2028 Memorial Cup

The Quebec Remparts will host the 2028 Memorial Cup.

The Canadian Hockey League made the announcement on Thursday afternoon, which comes less than a week after the selection committee made site visits. The Remparts and Moncton Wildcats both bid to host the annual four-team championship.

Quebec City last hosted in 2015 – but 2028 will mark the first time the event is held at the Videotron Centre. According to the CHL, "Québec City has a longstanding connection to the Memorial Cup, having staged the 1971 championship and hosted the tournament in 1991, 2003, and 2015."

The Remparts envision a celebration that brings generations of fans and alumni together, pairing championship hockey with Québec City’s food, music, and culture. Their goal is to make the tournament an experience the whole community can share, with festivities around Vidéotron Centre welcoming lifelong supporters and new fans alike.

“We are excited to bring the 2028 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota to Québec City,” said Dan MacKenzie, President of the CHL. “The Remparts and their partners presented a compelling vision backed by a passionate hockey community and proven experience hosting major events. We look forward to delivering an exceptional championship for players and fans while celebrating the city’s hockey heritage and honouring the Memorial Cup’s military roots.”

MacKenzie said in a video shared by the CHL that the five-person selection committee voted 4-1 in favour of Quebec City.
It's tough to beat the Remparts in a Memorial Cup host competition given their facility and population. The biggest knock on them was the fact that they hosted somewhat recently – but obviously that didn't impact the committee's decision. There are certainly valid questions about their roster given the NCAA landscape, so that will be interesting to follow over the next year.

Sea Dogs set to play three-in-three

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
The Saint John Sea Dogs are set to venture into Quebec for the first time this season as they look to put a tough weekend behind them.

The Sea Dogs dropped back-to-back games at TD Station this past weekend, falling 4-1 to the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday and 3-1 to the Val-d'Or Foreurs on Sunday.

Saturday's loss ended a five-game winning streak for Saint John. They now own a record of 6-3-1-1 for 14 points, placing them fifth in the Eastern Conference and ninth overall in the QMJHL.

The Sea Dogs have yet to face two of the three teams they'll play on this road trip. They have only played the Drummondville Voltigeurs, winning 4-3 in a shootout on Oct. 12

Here's a look at this weekend's three-in-three.

Friday at Gatineau (6-3-2-1, 15 points, 4th Western, 7th QMJHL)

Saturday at Blainville-Boisbriand (3-8-1-0, 7 points, 8th Western, 17th QMJHL)

Sunday at Drummondville (3-6-0-2, 8 points, 7th Western, 16th QMJHL)

On paper, this trip is built pretty well for Saint John, facing the toughest opponent (again, on paper) first. It's worth noting that Drummondville has played just two home games so far this year.

The Sea Dogs are 2-1-0-0 against Western Conference opponents this season. Their lone loss was Sunday against Val-d'Or.

It will be interesting to see how the Sea Dogs perform this weekend and what changes they may make after a challenging weekend. Certainly something to keep an eye on is the team's offense, which has scored just three even strength goals over the past three games. Saint John has really been relying on a strong power play for much of this early season.

The Sea Dogs have a road heavy few weeks ahead of them. Following this three-game trip, they return home to host the Moncton Wildcats on Halloween before immediately hitting the road to visit the Eagles the next day, which will not be an easy turnaround. The following weekend, the Sea Dogs visit the Halifax Mooseheads and Charlottetown Islanders.

Radkov off to impressive start

Saint John Sea Dogs fans got a good look at why the Val-d'Or Foreurs sit first overall in the QMJHL standings on Sunday.

The Foreurs grabbed a 3-0 lead over the Sea Dogs in the second period and hung on for a 3-1 victory, completing an impressive four-game sweep through the Maritimes. Val-d'Or outscored opponents 19-5 during the four-game stretch.

Val-d'Or now owns a 10-1-1-0 record, placing them first overall. That includes a 7-0-1-0 record on the road.

Sea Dogs fans have gotten used to seeing former Dogs play starring roles when facing their old club. Sunday was no different as goaltender Arseni Radkov made 33 stops in a first star performance. That included stopping all 19 shots he faced in the third period.

Radkov is now a solid 4-0-1 on the year, owning a 2.32 goals against average – the third best in the QMJHL – and a .913 save percentage.

The Sea Dogs did manage to keep Nolann Héroux off the scoresheet on Sunday. The former Sea Dogs forward, who has spent much of the season on Val-d'Or's top line, has five goals and nine assists in 12 games with the Foreurs.

Héroux isn't the only former Sea Dog currently averaging over a point-per-game in the QMJHL this season. Here's a look at how all the ex-Dogs have performed so far.

Chad Bellemare leads the Phoenix in goals and is tied for the team's points lead.

The Phoenix also include goaltender Kyan Labbé, a fourth-round pick of Saint John in the 2023 QMJHL Entry Draft. Labbé is currently tied for the league lead in wins with six.

Recap: Sea Dogs lose 3-1

FINAL: Val-d'Or 3, Saint John 1
Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN - It was a less than ideal weekend for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

After falling 4-1 to the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday, the Sea Dogs followed that up with a 3-1 loss to the Val-d'Or Foreurs on Sunday at TD Station. The Sea Dogs entered the weekend on a five-game winning streak.

Defenseman Brandon Delarosbil scored Saint John's lone goal, which came in the second period with the team already down 3-0. While the Sea Dogs were able to get plenty of puck possession time as the game progressed – and the Foreurs began to run out of gas – the team struggled to break through the Foreurs' defensive structure. When they could get shots, former Dog Arseni Radkov was there to make the saves.

Val-d'Or led 2-0 after the first and grabbed a 3-0 advantage in the second. The Foreurs, playing their third game in three days and fourth in five, showed signs of fatigue as the game moved along – but they had enough left in the tank to hold on for the victory. Shots in the third were 15-4 in favour of Saint John.

Gabriel Provencher, Maxime Sauthier and Josh Demers had Val-d'Or goals. Radkov made 33 stops in the win.

Samuel Meloche was pulled after allowing two goals on three shots in the first period. Rafaël Courchesne made 20 stops in relief.

The Foreurs head home having swept their four-game Maritimes road trip. They sit first overall in the QMJHL with a 10-1-1-0 record.

Game Day 11: vs Foreurs

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs will look to rebound from their worst loss of the season this afternoon at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs were beaten in all areas of the game by the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday, falling 4-1. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for Saint John and also marked their first regulation loss on home ice this season.

Things don't get any easier for the Sea Dogs this afternoon. Their opponent, the Val-d'Or Foreurs, enter play today on a five-game winning streak and sit first overall in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League standings with a 9-1-1-0 record.

The Foreurs will be playing their third game in three days and fourth in five. They've outscored opponents 16-4 on this Maritimes road trip.

Today's contest concludes a six-game homestand for the Sea Dogs. They won't play at home again until Halloween.

Game time today is 3 p.m.

Recap: Sea Dogs lose 4-1

FINAL: Cape Breton 4, Saint John 1
Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN - It wasn't a pretty end to the Saint John Sea Dogs' five-game winning streak on Saturday.

The Sea Dogs were bettered in all areas by the Cape Breton Eagles, falling 4-1 at TD Station. It was Saint John's first loss in five games and the first time in seven matches they failed to earn at least a point.

Maxim Schafer scored twice for Cape Breton while Aiden McCullough and Noah Jettelson added singles. Lucas Beckman made 16 stops in the win.

Saint John struggled at both ends of the ice, giving the Eagles a number of odd-man rushes and quality chances while also being unable to generate a lot in terms of offense. The Sea Dogs were outshot 19-5 and 8-5 in the second and third periods, respectively.

Saint John's only significant amount of offensive zone pressure came late in the first period, allowing Olivier Groulx to open the scoring and give the Dogs a 1-0 lead after one. Cape Breton took control in the final two periods though, scoring twice in each.

Even the Sea Dogs' power play, which has been so good all year, couldn't solve the Eagles, going 0/4.

Samuel Meloche made 28 stops in the loss.

Saint John won't have much time to think about this loss. They host the Val-d'Or Foreurs tomorrow at TD Station – which will not be an easy battle.

Game Day 10: vs Eagles

Shane Wilkie/Cape Breton Eagles
SAINT JOHN - Two teams that have been heading in opposite directions of late collide today at TD Station.

The Saint John Sea Dogs, who have won five straight, host the Cape Breton Eagles, losers of three straight, this afternoon at 4 p.m. Both teams were expected to be amongst the best in the QMJHL this season but have gotten off to very different starts.

This will already be the third meeting of the season between the Sea Dogs and Eagles. Both of the previous two games required extra time.

Both teams should be rested and ready for this big tilt. The Eagles haven't played since Monday in Sherbrooke while the Sea Dogs have been off since hosting the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Monday.

Stream/TV/Radio: FloHockey/None/Sea Dogs Audio Network

2026-27 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 6-1-1-1 for 14 points (third Eastern/fourth QMJHL) while the Eagles are 2-3-1-3 for eight points (ninth Eastern/14th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-3 shootout win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Monday. Alexander Donovan, Lawrence Williams and Jabez Seymour scored for Saint John. Rafaël Courchesne made 23 saves in the win. The Eagles are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Sherbrooke on Monday. Elias Schneider, Maxim Schafer and Reece Peitzsche scored for Cape Breton. Lucas Beckman made 31 stops in the loss.

Winning (streak) ways are back

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
The vibes are high around the Saint John Sea Dogs right now.

The Sea Dogs won a fifth straight game on Monday afternoon, defeating the Drummondville Voltigeurs 4-3 in a shootout. The team has also collected at least a point in each of their past seven games and have suffered just one regulation loss this year.

Saint John is 6-1-1-1, placing them third overall in the QMJHL standings.

Sea Dogs fans are understandably excited about the start – and with good reason. This five-game winning streak is the longest the team has had since 2021-22, the year Saint John hosted the Memorial Cup.

If you remove that 2021-22 season, it's been a rough decade in terms of consistency for the Sea Dogs. Here's a look at the team's longest winning streaks in each of the past 10 seasons.

2025-26: 3
2024-25: 4
2023-24: 3
2022-23: 3 (done 3 times)
2021-22: 15
2020-21: 3 (done 3 times)
2019-20: 3 (done 6 times)
2018-19: 3
2017-18: 3
2016-17: 9

The Sea Dogs also had a 10-game and five-game winning streak in 2021-22. In 2016-17, they also had eight-game and five-game streaks.

Saint John won the Memorial Cup in 2022 and the QMJHL championship in 2017. The franchise is certainly hoping that cycle of championships continues in 2027.

Something else worth noting: Saint John is 4-0-1-1 on home ice this season. The Sea Dogs had one of the league's worst home records last season (11-19-2-0) and had more road wins (12) than home. This is a positive start to the year – and certainly another reason for Sea Dogs fans to be happy right now.

Saint John concludes a stretch of six straight home games with a tough back-to-back at TD Station this weekend. On Saturday at 4 p.m., the Sea Dogs host the struggling Cape Breton Eagles, who will try and turn their season around with a big road win in Saint John. Then on Sunday, the Dogs welcome the Val-d'Or Foreurs who currently sit first overall in the QMJHL.

According to a Hockey Canada press release, "the 2026 U17 World Challenge kicks off Nov. 1 with Canada White taking on Czechia and Canada Red matching up against Finland. Sea Dogs move up to No. 5

Saint John Sea Dogs
A three-win weekend has pushed the Saint John Sea Dogs up two spots in the latest CHL Top-10.

The Sea Dogs moved up to the No. 5 spot in the week four rankings. Saint John had a perfect long weekend, posting wins over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Charlottetown Islanders and Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Saint John has now won five straight games and collected points in seven straight. They sit second overall in the QMJHL standings with only the Quebec Remparts – who were ranked second nationally – sitting ahead of them.

The Memorial Cup host Guelph Storm remain in the No. 1 spot.

A five-game winning streak, including three victories last week, has launched the Sea Dogs (6-1-1-1) up to the number five spot in this week’s rankings. Jamie Glance (2G-4A) opened Friday’s game against Rouyn-Noranda with two goals that the Sea Dogs never looked back from in a 6-3 win. The next day, three unanswered second-period goals put Saint John up 4-1, before they held off a third-period Charlottetown push to hold on for a 4-3 win. And finally, Glance played hero in the shootout for the Sea Dogs as they overcame a late tying goal from Drummondville that forced overtime. Zachary Morin (2G-2A) and Dylan Rozzi (3A) each had points in all three games, while Alexis Joseph (2G-1A), Thomas Charbonneau (3A) and Jabez Seymour (1G-2A) had three-point weekends. Samuel Meloche stopped 56 of 62 shots, and all three shooters in Monday’s shootout, in two wins over the weekend, and 2010-born Lawrence Williams scored his first QMJHL goal in Monday’s win against Drummondville. The Sea Dogs remain at home this weekend for the final two games of a six-game home stretch, with their third game of the season against Cape Breton on Saturday and then Val-d’Or on Sunday.

The Sea Dogs have a tough back-to-back on home ice this weekend. On Saturday they'll host the Cape Breton Eagles, who were predicted to be a top team in the league this season but are off to a disappointing 2-3-1-3 start. Then on Sunday, the Dogs will host the Val-d'Or Foreurs, who currently sit second in the Western Conference.

Recap: Sea Dogs win 4-3 (SO)

FINAL: Drummondville 3, Saint John 4 (SO)
Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN - Make it five straight wins for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Jamie Glance scored the lone goal of the shootout to give the Sea Dogs a 4-3 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Monday at TD Station. Along with stretching their winning streak to five games, the Sea Dogs have also collected at least a point in seven straight.

Alexander Donovan, Lawrence Williams and Jabez Seymour scored in regulation time for Saint John. Rafaël Courchesne made 23 stops in the win.

It took the Sea Dogs a bit of time to find the scoresheet on Monday afternoon. The Voltigeurs led 1-0 after one and it wasn't until 14:18 of the middle frame that Donovan got Saint John on the board with a power play goal. 21 seconds later, Williams blasted his first QMJHL goal with a shot top corner on Drummondville goaltender Jan Larys.

33 seconds after Williams' goal, the Volts tied it up again, making it 2-2 heading into the third.

At 8:49 of the third, Seymour put Saint John back in front. But this one was destined for extra time after Hugo Dufour scored at 16:34 to make it 3-3.

Dufour had two goals in the game while Maxime-Olivier Drolet added a single. Larys made 22 stops in the loss.

Game Day 9: vs Voltigeurs

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs will look to carry their winning ways into a Thanksgiving Monday afternoon tilt.

The Sea Dogs welcome the Drummondville Voltigeurs to TD Station this afternoon. Saint John carries a four-game winning streak into the contest, which was extended following a 4-3 win over the Charlottetown Islanders on Saturday.

Saint John has also collected a least a point in six straight games.

The Voltigeurs have a difficult schedule to start the year, playing their first nine games on the road. They are 2-5-0-1 so far and this will be their final road game before playing their home opener on Friday.

Game time today is 3 p.m.

Saint John Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN - Make it four straight wins for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs extended their winning streak with a 4-3 home win over the Charlottetown Islanders on Saturday. The team has now earned at least a point in six straight outings.

Saint John controlled much of the game on Saturday and carried a 4-1 lead into the third period. The Islanders scored two quick goals in the third – the first at 3:05 and the second at 3:38 – to make it interesting. The Dogs would hang on for the victory, though.

Alexis Joseph, Zachary Morin, Ryan Howard and Alexander Donovan scored for Saint John. Jamie Glance had another multi-point game, recording two assists. Samuel Meloche made 25 saves in the win.

Kimani Eccleston, Hugo Charron and Nolan Duskocy had Charlottetown goals. Donald Hickey made 35 stops in the loss – and his performance kept this game close.

This is the first meeting of the year between the Sea Dogs and Islanders – meaning this will be the first time Jim Hulton will coach against his old club.

Notebook: Theme schedule announced

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
The Saint John Sea Dogs released their theme night schedule for the 2026-27 season earlier this week.

There are a few notable new themes, like Dia De Los Muertos (a popular theme in southern US markets), Hockey Benders takeover and Cirque de Sea Dogs.

The usual theme games are also returning, like Sea Dogs fight cancer, military appreciation, teddy bear toss and so on.
Saint John will also have a 4 p.m. home game on Halloween. The Sea Dogs last played on Halloween in 2024 and had a season low crowd that night.

JOSEPH FIGHT
Here's better video of Alexis Joseph's third period fight on Friday in Cape Breton – the first of his QMJHL career.

The fight took place after Eagles defenseman Aiden McCullough put a hit on Sea Dogs forward Olivier Lemieux. Lemieux has not played since the hit.

Game Day 7: vs Huskies

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs will get their first taste of the Western Conference tonight at TD Station.

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies – who will be playing the fourth game of a six-game Atlantic road trip – make their lone appearance of the regular season at TD Station tonight. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Sea Dogs have only played Atlantic based teams up until this point. Saint John is riding a two-game winning streak and have collected points in four straight.

Goaltender Samuel Meloche will presumably get the start for Saint John tonight. This will be the first time the netminder faces his old club.

Stream/TV/Radio: FloHockey/None/Sea Dogs Audio Network

2026-27 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 3-1-1-1 for eight points (seventh Eastern/11th QMJHL) while the Huskies are 3-2-2-0 for eight points (fifth Western/12th QMJHL).

Sea Dogs bring back third jersey

Saint John Sea Dogs
The Saint John Sea Dogs are back in black.

The team announced Thursday that the popular black third jerseys – which haven't been worn in a few seasons – are returning this year. Fans will get their first chance to see them on Friday night when Saint John hosts the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at TD Station.

The third jerseys will once again be dominantly black and feature an alternate Sea Dogs logo, one that is a spinoff of the Saint John Flames' logo. The overall design is a bit different compared to the old one and a new, New Brunswick flag inspired shoulder patch has been added.
The alternate logo – like the Sea Dogs' primary logo – has been given a modern twist as well.

Judging by the photos, the Sea Dogs will continue to wear their usual blue helmets, gloves and shorts with the third jerseys.
The Sea Dogs originally debuted the black third jersey during the 2012-13 season and have worn them off-and-on since then. Most notably, the look was popular during the team's 2017 playoff and Memorial Cup run.

Drabczynski off to USHL

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
Oskar Drabczynski is off to the United States Hockey League.

The Saint John Sea Dogs announced the news on Wednesday, posting in a tweet that the 18-year-old defenseman "has decided to leave the #SJSeaDogs to pursue an opportunity in the USHL. We wish Oskar the very best the rest of the way this season."

Elite Prospects has Drabczynski with the USHL's Omaha Lancers but Robert Chalmers reports that he's heading to the Fargo Force.

The news doesn't come as a huge shock given that the defenseman has been pushed down the Saint John's depth chart – and this is before Olivier Duhamel returns from injury and/or Vertti Svensk possibly joins the backend. Drabczynski has appeared in just one game with the Sea Dogs this season.

The Connecticut native played in 44 games with Saint John last season, posting two goals and eight assists. He also appeared in two playoff games.

Drabczynski, a seventh-round pick of the Sea Dogs in the 2025 QMJHL Entry Draft, is committed to Harvard University.

Sea Dogs back to 7th in latest CHL Top-10

The Saint John Sea Dogs are back up to seventh in this week's CHL Top-10 rankings.

The Sea Dogs moved up two spots following a 4-3 shootout win in Cape Breton on Friday and a 4-3 overtime victory over the Halifax Mooseheads on Sunday.

The Quebec Remparts were the highest ranked QMJHL team, coming in at No. 2. The Moncton Wildcats, meanwhile, were ranked sixth and the Rimouski Oceanic 10th.
The Sea Dogs were ranked seventh in both the pre-season and week one CHL Top-10 rankings. They fell to ninth last week.

Here's what the CHL website had to say about the Sea Dogs this week:

7. Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL): Saint John turned a pair of close games into four points, beating Cape Breton 4-3 in a shootout Friday and Halifax 4-3 in overtime Sunday. Dylan Rozzi’s fifth goal of the season forced extra time against the Eagles before Jamie Glance and Alexander Donovan converted in the shootout. Brandon Delarosbil then scored 30 seconds into overtime against the Mooseheads to lift the Sea Dogs to 3-1-1-1. Glance had three assists Sunday, while Matyas Cancik scored his first QMJHL goal. Alexis Joseph added a goal and an assist in that game, bringing his season totals to two goals and four assists in six games. Joseph was among the first four players named to Team CHL for the 2026 CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Primaris. Buffalo Sabres prospect Samuel Meloche stopped 63 of 69 shots across the two wins. Saint John’s homestand continues with visits from Rouyn-Noranda, Charlottetown and Drummondville.

As the CHL website noted, the Sea Dogs will play three home games this coming long weekend but none will be against ranked teams – something that has been rare for Saint John so far this season.

Meloche named to Team of the Week (and some other stats)

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
Two weekend wins have earned Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender Samuel Meloche a spot on the QMJHL's Team of the Week.

In two starts, Meloche posted a 2-0 record with a 2.87 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.

Meloche made 37 saves in Saint John's 4-3 shootout win in Cape Breton on Friday night and followed that up with a 26-save performance in a 4-3 overtime win over the Halifax Mooseheads on Sunday.

This weekend was the first time Meloche had started back-to-back games this season. He'll likely make a third straight start on Friday when his former team, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, make their lone regular season visit to TD Station.

A few other stats now that we're six games into the season...

  • Dylan Rozzi and Jamie Glance each have a Sea Dogs high seven points. Rozzi leads the team in goals with five while Glance is the team leader in assists with six. Glance had three helpers in Sunday's win, including the overtime winner.
  • Glance has recorded the second most assists amongst QMJHL rookies, just one less than Quebec's Carter Meyer. Glance sits sixth in overall rookie scoring with seven points.
  • Brandon Delarosbil netted the overtime winner on Sunday. He has just 10 career goals in the QMJHL – but four of those have come in overtime. He netted three last season with the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Oddly, all of his OT goals were scored at roughly the same time.
    • Oct. 12, 2025 vs BAC: 0:33
    • Oct. 25, 2025 vs VIC: 0:35
    • Jan. 7, 2026 vs QUE: 0:36
    • Oct. 4, 2026 vs HAL: 0:30
  • The production that Matyas Cancik has had early this season pretty much forced the Sea Dogs to move him up the lineup after starting the year on the fourth line. He currently sits eighth in rookie scoring with six points (a goal and five assists).
  • Saint John is averaging 15.83 penalty minutes per game, the most in the QMJHL. Fortunately, the team's penalty kill has been pretty good, sitting fourth in the league (83.3%).
  • The Sea Dogs have the third best power play in the league with a rating of 38.1%. The top unit, which started the year as a five forward unit, has adapted well to the addition of Delarosbil.
    • Rozzi and Alexander Donovan each have three power play goals on the year. Glance and Alexis Joseph have scored the others.
  • Saint John's GF-GA by periods:
    • Firsts: 10-5
    • Seconds: 5-6
    • Thirds: 4-8
  • Saint John's past four games have all gone into extra time. The Sea Dogs played in nine extra time games all of last season.

Recap: Sea Dogs win 4-3 (OT)

FINAL: Halifax 3, Saint John 4 (OT)
Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs picked up their first home win of the season on Sunday at TD Station.

Brandon Delarosbil scored 30 seconds into overtime to secure a 4-3 Sea Dogs victory. It was the fourth straight Sea Dogs game that required extra time.

This was Saint John's third home game of the season. Last weekend at TD Station, they fell in a shootout to the Moncton Wildcats and lost in overtime to the Cape Breton Eagles.

Along with Delarosbil, Alexander Donovan, Alexis Joseph and Matyas Cancik also scored in the win. Jamie Glance assisted on three of Saint John's four goals. Samuel Meloche made 26 saves in the victory.

Mateo Nobert, Duncan Anderson and Shawn Carrier scored for Halifax. Jack Fichthorn made 24 saves in the loss.

Much like Friday's game in Cape Breton, the Sea Dogs had a slow start offensively. After Halifax scored to make it 1-0 at 3:38, Saint John netted three straight goals in just under two minutes to take a 3-1 advantage at 13:03. But the Moose quickly cut Saint John's lead to 3-2 just 35 seconds later – and that's the way it would stand until the third period.

Special teams proved important in this contest with Saint John going 2/4 on the power play and Halifax 1/5. The Mooseheads' man advantage marker came at 7:56 of the third when Carrier converted, tying the game at 3-3.

The Sea Dogs were called for too many men at 17:34 of the third but produced a solid kill, which set the stage for Delarosbil's overtime winner.

Game Day 6: vs Mooseheads

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs will try to win their first home game of the season this afternoon at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-3 shootout victory in Cape Breton on Friday, improving their road record to 2-1-0-0 this season. At home though, the Sea Dogs are winless so far, sporting a 0-0-1-1 record.

Saint John will look to improve upon that record when they host the Halifax Mooseheads at 3 p.m.

The Mooseheads have a nearly identical record to the Sea Dogs'. Halifax is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Moncton on Friday, a loss that saw them blow 1-0 and 2-1 leads.

This is the first meeting of the regular season between the Sea Dogs and Mooseheads.

Recap: Sea Dogs win 4-3 (SO)

FINAL: Saint John 4, Cape Breton 3 (SO)
Shane Wilkie/Cape Breton Eagles
SYDNEY, NS - It wasn't easy, but the Saint John Sea Dogs came away with a 4-3 shootout win over the Cape Breton Eagles on Friday at Centre 200.

Jamie Glance and Alexander Donovan scored the only goals of the shootout to give the Sea Dogs the extra point. After not playing in a single shootout all of last season, this was Saint John's second in a week.

The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Sea Dogs, one that was extended by the Eagles erasing a three-goal deficit on Saturday at TD Station and skating away with a 5-4 overtime win.

It looked as though this game may have a similar script to Saturday's. Despite being heavily outshot, Saint John grabbed a 2-0 lead early in the second period. But the Eagles then scored three straight goals to carry a 3-2 advantage into the third.

Shots were 31-12 in favour of the Eagles in the first two periods combined. The Sea Dogs settled things down in the third and netted the equalizer quickly after an offensive zone faceoff at 7:11, ultimately sending the game into extra time.

It wasn't the prettiest performance by the Sea Dogs, but it got the job done – and that's just the way life is going to be a lot of times in Atlantic Canada this season. This was the third straight extra time game for Saint John.

Donovan, Glance and Dylan Rozzi scored in regulation time for Saint John. Samuel Meloche was named the game's third star, making 37 stops in the win.

Derek Andrews, Elias Schneider and Liam Lefebvre scored for Cape Breton. Lukas Beckman made 20 stops in the loss.

Game Day 5: at Cape Breton

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
SYDNEY, NS - The Saint John Sea Dogs will look to get some revenge on the Cape Breton Eagles tonight.

The Sea Dogs blew a 3-0 lead in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Eagles on Saturday at TD Station. It looked as the Sea Dogs, who had a strong start, faded as the game went along. We'll see how they fare tonight with fresh legs.

This will be Saint John's third road game of the season. They split a pair of games in Newfoundland during opening weekend.

Both the Sea Dogs and Eagles remain in the CHL Top-10, making this one of the league's biggest matchups of the week. Hopefully it can live up to the hype.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m. at Centre 200.

Stream/TV/Radio: FloHockey/None/Sea Dogs Audio Network

2026-27 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 1-1-1-1 for four points (seventh Eastern/13th QMJHL) while the Eagles are 1-1-0-2 for four points (eighth Eastern/14th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs and Eagles met last Saturday at TD Station where Cape Breton posted a 5-4 overtime win. Reece Peitzsche, Liam Lefebvre, Eliot Litalien, Elias Schneider and Jacob Hartlin scored for Cape Breton. Alexander Donovan, Oliver Ozogany, Thomas Charbonneau and Olivier Groulx scored for Saint John. Lucas Beckman made 21 stops in the victory. Rafaël Courchesne made 22 saves in the loss.

College hockey season set to start

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
Two players from last season's Saint John Sea Dogs team could make their first college hockey appearances as early as this weekend.

Olivers Murnieks and the Boston College Eagles are travelling to Michigan State for an intriguing exhibition contest on Friday followed by a matchup against the USNTDP on Saturday.

Everett Baldwin and the Providence College Friars, meanwhile, are set to host Stonehill College on Friday, which is also an exhibition contest.

Both Boston College and Providence begin regular season non-conference play next weekend. The Eagles will host Alaska while the Friars host St. Lawrence and Clarkson.

It will be interesting to see how much Murnieks and Baldwin play as freshmen – especially Baldwin given that he is a 19-year-old defenseman on a good team.

"I’m really excited to see what Lightning prospect Everett Baldwin can do on defense," wrote Tyler Kuehl of Daily Faceoff. "He established himself as a two-way threat with the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs.

It looks like there will be eight former Sea Dogs playing NCAA hockey this season. Murnieks and Baldwin will be the only freshmen while the other six played college hockey last season – the first where CHL players were eligible to play.
