Former Saint John Sea Dogs forward Samuel Dove-McFalls scored the game-winning goal to clinch a fourth consecutive Atlantic University Sport championship for the UNB Reds on Friday.

Dove-McFalls, the Reds captain, broke a 1-1 tie with a power play goal early in the third period. The Reds would add an empty net goal late to defeat the rival StFX X-Men 3-1 in the one-game AUS championship.

"It was a play that we like to run on the power play that worked out perfectly," Dove-McFalls told the Reds website after the game. "All the credit goes to Rob Hennigar, our power play coach, for setting that up."
With two goals and three assists in three playoff games, Dove-McFalls was named the AUS playoff MVP.

The 24-year-old is in his fourth season at UNB (including last year's cancelled campaign). He recorded 10 goals and 20 points in 24 regular season games.

The Reds roster also features former Sea Dogs defenseman Benjamin Gagne. Former Dogs forward Nicolas Guay left the team during the COVID pause to go play professional hockey.
The Reds and X-Men had already earned spots in next week's University Cup national championship, hosted by Acadia University. UNB will likely be seeded first or second.

UNB, StFX and Acadia will be joined by Alberta, UBC, Brock and UQTR. There will be one more OUA team attending as well - either Ryerson or McGill - and that will be determined on Saturday.

The University Cup begins Thursday in Wolfville.
