The Saint John Sea Dogs made two deals ahead of Friday afternoon's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League trade deadline.
The Sea Dogs acquired 18-year-old forward Nathan Casey from the Moncton Wildcats in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick. Then in a separate deal, the Sea Dogs picked up 17-year-old defenseman Tristan Dassylva from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in exchange for a ninth-round pick in 2025.
Casey, a fourth-round pick of the Wildcats in the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft, had a goal and three assists in 20 games with Moncton last season. He split the 2020-21 season with the Wildcats and Maritime Hockey League's Fredericton Red Wings.
Dassylva was a second-round pick of Baie-Comeau in the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft. He's appeared in just 10 games with the Drakkar this season and played in four last year. He's also appeared in one contest with the QJHL's Princeville Titans this season.
The Sea Dogs did not trade overage goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise, who has been a healthy scratch since play resumed after the Christmas break. Veteran forwards Brady Burns and Peter Reynolds were also not dealt.
While the trade period is over, it will be interesting to see if the Sea Dogs make any moves through the waiver wire or free agency.
The Sea Dogs resume play Friday night against the Halifax Mooseheads at TD Station.
