HALIFAX
- The Saint John Sea Dogs' netminding duo of Ventsislav Shingarov and Olivier Brideau has a new look.

The goalie mask designer Derrick Gilders shared the designs of the goaltenders' new masks on Instagram this week.

TRENHOLM'S DEBUT
Connor Trenholm scored an empty net goal in his debut with the Moncton Wildcats on Wednesday.

Trenholm, who was traded by the Sea Dogs on Tuesday in exchange for two second-round draft picks, scored late in the third period to help the Wildcats defeat his other former team, the Cape Breton Eagles, 5-2 at Centre 200.

The 19-year-old also had two shots, went 8/19 in the faceoff circle and took three minor penalties.

The Sea Dogs and Wildcats don't meet again until Jan. 28 in Moncton.

LAWRENCE HONOURED
Former Sea Dogs forward Josh Lawrence has been named the QMJHL's player of the week.

Lawrence recorded four goals and six assists in three games for the Halifax Mooseheads last week.
The 20-year-old sits sixth in QMJHL scoring with 53 points in 36 games. He recorded 101 points in 68 games with the Sea Dogs last season.

COUTURE TO ACADIA

The 20-year-old has a 16-7-2-2 record with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies this season to go along with a 2.76 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.

"I chose Acadia University because I feel like this is the best place for me to excel on and off the ice," Couture told AcadiaAxemenHockey.com. "The fit with coach Darren Burns was good and my parents also loved their meeting with him, so this decision wasn’t a really hard one for me. Studying in English and coming back to the Maritimes was a priority for me and Acadia provides me with both.”

Couture, acquired by the Sea Dogs in the massive Philippe Daoust deal last year, posted an 18-2 record with Saint John in the second half along with a 1.99 GAA and .925 SV%. He also appeared in all five of Saint John's playoff games.

Acadia head coach Darren Burns, the father of Sea Dogs forward Brady Burns, has watched the Sea Dogs plenty of times over the past five years. It will be interesting to see if any other former/current Dogs commit to Acadia in the near future.

OTHER THINGS
  • Former Sea Dogs forward Joshua Roy had two goals and two assists in Canada's 6-2 semifinal victory over the United States on Wednesday. The Canadians will play for gold on Thursday night against Czechia.
  • According to an announcement in the building, Wednesday's Canada/United States crowd of 10,636 set a Scotiabank Centre attendance record.
  • Impressive work by the Scotiabank Centre staff to get the building emptied and filled again during a tight timeline between Wednesday's semifinal games.
  • The Sea Dogs website has a feature on Cole Burbidge.
  • The QMJHL's trade deadline is Friday. It looks like Bathurst's Riley Kidney will indeed be traded after being listed as a heathy scratch on Wednesday.
