Notebook: It's Bathurst... again

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
The Saint John Sea Dogs take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan not once, but twice this weekend.

If you want to the Sea Dogs win games, this might be news for you. Saint John has yet to lose in regulation time against Bathurst this season. But if you want to see a variety of teams, this is not good news for you.

These two games with be the fifth and sixth meetings of the season between the Sea Dogs and Titan — a significant number given that it's just the first week of November.

Saint John is 3-0-0-1 against Bathurst this season.

The Sea Dogs host the Titan on Friday night before travelling to the KC Irving Regional Centre on Saturday for a 4 p.m. start.

Following this weekend's games, the Sea Dogs and Titan meet three more times this season: Dec. 31 in Saint John, Feb. 2 in Bathurst and March 14 in Saint John.

HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER
The Sea Dogs will be holding their annual Hockey Fights Cancer themed game on Friday. The team will be sporting pink/purple jerseys per usual.
Friday's match will also feature intermission performances from The Artificially Hip, a Tragically Hip cover band.

NEW POD EP
This week on The Hockey News on the Q, Will MacLaren and I discuss the league's standings, NHL Central Scouting list, Detroit Red Wings prospects, the Lewiston shooting Adam Johnson.
BEAULIEU SIGNS
Nathan Beaulieu has signed with the National League's EHC Kloten in Switzerland.

Beaulieu, an unrestricted free agent, was not signed over the summer. He took part in Carolina Hurricanes training camp on a tryout basis.

"Nathan is an extremely complete defenseman who stood out in the NHL for his physical and consistent defensive play," said Kloten team manager Larry Mitchell via Swiss Hockey News. "But he also has great qualities in the offensive end, which he has been able to demonstrate time and again in the best hockey league in the world."

The 30-year-old has played in 471 career NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Winnipeg Jets and Anaheim Ducks. He appeared n 52 games with the Ducks last season.

There are a few other former Sea Dogs playing in the National League this season: Chris DiDomenico, Tomas Jurco, Eric Gelinas and Robert Mayer.

POIRIER INJURED
Some really unfortunate news for Jeremie Poirier, who was having a tremendous start with the AHL's Calgary Wranglers.
Poirier had a goal and six assists in his first four games of the season. At the time of this writing, he still sat fourth in AHL defensemen scoring.
