SAINT JOHN - It was far from a masterpiece, but the Saint John Sea Dogs pulled off a 6-3 win over the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday at TD Station.

The victory extends Saint John's winning streak to three games and ends a three-game losing streak against the Eagles.

The Sea Dogs got off to a rough start, falling behind 2-0 just 4:39 in. It took some time for Saint John to get the engines going and they weren't getting a lot of bounces or calls going their way. But the Dogs kept pushing and were eventually rewarded, really turning things around as the game progressed.

Saint John scored twice in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the third — despite being outshot 28-14 through 40 minutes. The Dogs made it 5-3 at 8:20 of the third but the Eagles got back within one just 18 seconds later. Like Thursday's game, the Sea Dogs did a good job at not allowing their opponent to grab momentum. Eriks Mateiko added some insurance at 9:19 to give Saint John some breathing room.

Along with Mateiko, Matteo Mann, Reid Calder, Noah Reinhart, Kency Pierre-Noel and Mathis Gauthier all scored for Saint John. Reinhart also had three assists while Reynolds and Elie each added two. Patrick Leaver made 33 saves in the win.

Angelo Fullerton, Cam Squires and Emile Ricard scored for Cape Breton. Nicolas Ruccia was pulled in the third period after allowing five goals on 32 shots. Jakub Milota made five saves in relief.
