SYDNEY, NS - A dominant second period pushed the Cape Breton Eagles to a 10-3 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs on Thursday at Centre 200.
In the first game back from the Christmas break for both teams, the Eagles broke a 1-1 first period tie by scoring six goals in the middle frame. It was all Eagles with shots 20-6 in favour of the home side.
The Eagles, the league's worst offensive team in the first half, showed off some depth with eight different players scoring in the win. Three goals came from Olivier Houde with singles coming from Cole Burbidge, Charles-Antoine Lavallee, Luke Patterson, Conor Shortall, Emile Ricard, Jude Campbell and Cam Squires.
Nicolas Ruccia made 23 saves in the win.
Newcomer Brody Fournier scored twice for Saint John along with Kency Pierre-Noel. Justin Robinson was pulled in the second period after allowing five goals on 22 shots. Patrick Leaver allowed five goals on 19 shots in relief.
You never really know what you're going to get from teams coming out of the Christmas break. This was a rough one for Saint John, one that they'll need to move on from quickly with back-to-back games coming up this weekend.
