Mateiko performs well at NHL Combine

Saint John Sea Dogs forward Eriks Mateiko had a strong showing at the recent NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo.

The Latvian had top-10 finishes aerobic fitness, wingspan and right and left hand grip.

Mateiko, who recorded 23 goals and 20 assists in 49 games with the Sea Dogs last season, is listed at 6'5" and 209 lbs. He wore an 'A' with Saint John last season and previously captained Latvia's under-18 team.

Mateiko's future with Saint John is unknown as there is plenty of interest in the forward from contending teams around the QMJHL. Mateiko will be one of the top imports in the league next season.

The 18-year-old is projected to go anywhere from the second to fourth round in this month's NHL Draft, which takes place June 28-29 in Las Vegas.
