ST. STEPHEN, NB - The Saint John Sea Dogs opened the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League pre-season with a 4-1 win over the Charlottetown Islanders on Tuesday night at the Garcelon Civic Center.

Play ended 1-1 after the first period. Just 2:54 into the second, Leard was given credit for a goal that was deflected a few times before beating Boudreau to give Saint John the lead. Less than two minutes later at 4:06, Lavalleé converted to make it 3-1.

The Sea Dogs added some insurance in the third when Schenk put in his own rebound to make it a 4-1 final.

NOTES: This was Saint John's first pre-season game in St. Stephen since 2019 when they lost 4-2 to the Halifax Mooseheads... attendance wasn't announced but the game was sold out or close to it... Matthew Ferdinand had a goal and an assist. Ferdinand appeared in four games with the MHL's Fredericton Red Wings last season – the team formerly known as the St. Stephen Aces... it was quite physical at times with hits ending 26-16 in favour of Saint John. It will be interesting to see if this trend lasts throughout the pre-season... Elliot Dubé, William Yared, Benjamin Beaudry and Florian Schenk all had three shots... Giuliano Caputo was credited with seven hits... Saint John had their full coaching staff behind the bench... Charlottetown had Gavin Smith, a St. Andrews native, in the lineup.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs and Islanders meet again tomorrow night in Pownal, PEI.
