Notebook: Sea Dogs release new video series

The Saint John Sea Dogs have released a new behind-the-scenes video series.

The Sea Dogs released the debut episode of "Closer To The Game presented by TD" on Monday. The episode goes behind the scenes of Saint John's regular season opener in September.

Last year, the Sea Dogs released a four-part series called "Rising Tide."

MORIN MENTION

Sea Dogs forward Zachary Morin is starting to get more NHL Draft attention.

Morin was ranked 29th in Craig Button's latest 2025 NHL Draft rankings over at TSN. Button has an intriguing list with Brampton Steelheads forward Porter Martone ranked first ahead of American James Hagens.

Morin has been averaging nearly a point-per-game since leaving the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms for the Sea Dogs. In 18 QMJHL games, the 17-year-old has four goals and 12 assists.

THROWBACK NIGHT

The Sea Dogs will be holding a Throwback Night on Friday when they host the Gatineau Olympiques. The team will be sporting the same jersey design as the one they wore for their first four seasons in the city.

Tickets to the game are $9 plus taxes and fees. Beer and popcorn will be available for $5 while kids combos will be $6.

This will be Gatineau's only trip to Saint John this season. The team sits last overall in the QMJHL with a record of 4-17-3-1.

POP UP SHOP

The Sea Dogs announced during Friday's game that they will be opening a pop up shop on the second level of Market Square. The store is expected to open at 11 a.m. this Thursday, just in time for Black Friday.

The team also announced that replica jerseys will be marked down to $89.99 from the usual $129.99.

ST. JOHN'S TALK

Around the 3:40:00 mark of the newest Spittin' Chiclets episode, Jeff Marek discusses the latest on the QMJHL returning to St. John's next season.

"It does sound like, and is trending towards, a junior team – they used to have the Devils there – returning to St. John's," Marek said, indicating that the Acadie-Bathurst Titan are likely the team to relocate there.

It's been fairly quiet in recent weeks on this front – which may be a good thing given how the last attempt to move the Titan to the city went over a decade ago.

The league will likely wait as long as they can before officially announcing a relocation. Attendance isn't great in Bathurst right now and will only get worse after it's announced.

• Former Sea Dogs forward Riley Bezeau has been assigned to the ECHL's Savannah Ghost Pirates. Bezeau has spent the past two seasons with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers. In eight games this season with the Checkers, the 22-year-old has a goal, an assist and 16 penalty minutes. 
• The UNB Reds will honour former head coach Gardiner MacDougall before their home game this Friday against the Acadia Axemen.
• The MHL's Edmundston Blizzard are ranked first in this week's CJHL Top 20. The Summerside Western Capitals were seventh.
• Quispamsis native Sam Oliver, who is currently playing his overage season with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, has committed to the University of New Hampshire for 2025-26.
• There are no games in the QMJHL until Friday due to the CHL USA Prospects Challenge, which takes place Tuesday and Wednesday.
• New third jerseys for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

• It sure sounds like the OHL is serious about expansion. Earlier this year there were reports that the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms and Muskegon Lumberjacks reached out to the league about joining.
