The Sea Dogs have played the Wildcats seven times on New Year's Eve; Bathurst twice; Charlottetown twice; Cape Breton once; and Halifax once.

ON THE ROAD
The Sea Dogs will play their first four games of the second half on the road.

Saint John resumed play on Saturday, visiting the Moncton Wildcats. They'll travel to Bathurst on Tuesday before visiting the Charlottetown Islanders for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.

The Sea Dogs will play their first home game since Dec. 14 on Jan. 8 when they host the Drummondville Voltigeurs. It will be Drummondville's only visit to Saint John this season. The Volts currently sit comfortably in first place in the Western Conference.

ROOKIES STEPPING UP
Here's an interesting stat. These numbers are as of the holiday break.
The Sea Dogs had four players – Zachary Morin, William Yared, Dylan Rozzi and Elliot Dubé – head into the break sitting top-10 in QMJHL rookie scoring.

Morin was mentioned in a story on the league's website about the QMJHL's top rookies so far.

LAVALLÉE BACK IN AMHERST
Overage forward Charles-Antoine Lavallée is back in the Maritime Hockey League.
Lavallée attended Saint John's training camp on loan from the Cape Breton Eagles. He appeared in two pre-season games with the club.

Lavallée played in 11 games with Amherst in the first half, lighting up the MHL with 11 goals and seven assists. He also appeared in 13 games with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens where he posted five goals and two assists.

The MHL is on break until Jan. 2.

OTHER THINGS
  • Eriks Mateiko led all forwards in ice time in Friday's 3-2 Latvia shootout win over Canada. His 20:59 of ice time was the third most of any Latvian skater.
  • Speaking of Mateiko, he is expected to be dealt prior to the QMJHL's trade deadline on Jan. 6. The Sea Dogs have yet to make a deal since the trade period opened on Dec. 16.
  • The Halifax Mooseheads have signed 16-year-old goaltender Nick Cirka, a seventh-round pick of the team in this year's QMJHL Entry Draft. Cirka had been playing in Connecticut and opted to join the Moose following the NCAA rule change.
  • The Acadie-Bathurst Titan have also added a new goaltender. The team traded Mathis Langevin to Chicoutimi on Friday to make room for the Latvian, who is committed to the University of Maine.
  • A lot of big crowds for New Year's games around the QMJHL. Monday's Mooseheads/Eagles contest in Sydney is sold out as is the rematch on Tuesday in Halifax. Moncton's New Year's Eve home game against Charlottetown is nearly sold out as well.
  • Former Sea Dogs forward Ryan Francis scored in his season debut with the ECHL's Adirondack Thunder. Francis was serving a team suspension in the first half and did not appear in a single game this season before Friday.
  • Many have wondered if Tynan Lawrence, the younger brother of Josh Lawrence, could leave the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks for the QMJHL for the second half. But Lawrence was in the Lumberjacks lineup on Friday, the team's first game of the second half, which would seem to make it unlikely he'll make the jump. Lawrence's QMJHL rights are held by Chicoutimi.
