Game Day 64: at Charlottetown

CHARLOTTETOWN - Only five games remain on the Saint John Sea Dogs' regular season schedule and three of them will be against the Charlottetown Islanders.

The first of those meetings takes place tonight at Eastlink Centre. The Sea Dogs have points in five straight games (2-0-3-0) while the Islanders have dropped four straight (0-3-1-0).

Saint John remains two points back of the Val-d'Or Foreurs for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's final playoff spot. Every point will matter the rest of the way.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.

Playoffs remain a possibility for Sea Dogs

Only five regular season games remain for the Saint John Sea Dogs - and they could all be important.

The Sea Dogs remain two points back of the Val-d'Or Foreurs, the team that currently owns the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's 16th and final playoff spot. Val-d'Or has 51 points with four games left while Saint John has 49 points with five games remaining.

The Sea Dogs are 2-0-3-0 in their last five games. They've lost three overtime matches over their past five contests - a win in each of those would have them in a playoff spot right now. But that's the way it goes.

Saint John is 3-3-0-0 against Charlottetown this season and picking up as many points as they can in the remaining three meetings will be pivotal for the team's playoff chances. The Sea Dogs take on the Islanders Tuesday night at Eastlink Centre.

Acadie-Bathurst Titan

BATHURST - The Saint John Sea Dogs suffered a second straight overtime loss on Sunday, falling 4-3 to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at the KC Irving Regional Centre.

The Sea Dogs were up 3-2 late in the game but allowed the Titan back in it. Ty Higgins netted his second of the game on a power play at 17:16 to send the match into extra time tied 3-3.

After Bathurst couldn't score on another man advantage, Higgins completed the hat trick by netting the game-winner at 4:28 of overtime.

Along with Higgins, Donovan Arsenault scored for Bathurst. Joshua Fleming, who shutout the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday, made 30 stops in a strong performance that included facing 19 shots in the middle frame.

Brady Burns, Alex Drover and Peter Reynolds scored for Saint John. Ventsislav Shingarov made 29 stops in the loss.

The Sea Dogs remain two points back of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's final playoff spot with the Val-d'Or Foreurs losing in a shootout.

Game Day 63: at Bathurst

BATHURST - The Saint John Sea Dogs enter play today two points out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's final playoff spot.

The Val-d'Or Foreurs lost to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar last night, keeping them in 16th overall with 50 points. Saint John sits 17th with 48 points and has played one less game.

The Sea Dogs will look to draw even with the Foreurs this afternoon in Bathurst when they take on the Titan at 3 p.m. Val-d'Or, meanwhile, is in Chicoutimi.

Saint John will be looking for a better result than their last trip to Bathurst, which saw them lose 6-5 in overtime on March 4.

MONCTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs picked up a point in a tough road loss to the Moncton Wildcats on Friday night.

The Sea Dogs carried the play at times and were outshooting the Wildcats 26-15 through two periods. But Moncton turned it on in the third and carried that momentum into overtime, securing a 3-2 victory.

The Sea Dogs were trailing 2-1 after two but tied it early in the third period on a power play. The Wildcats outshot the Sea Dogs 17-8 in the final frame and fired the only shot of the overtime period.

Saint John entered play Friday just one-point back of the Val-d'Or Foreurs for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's final playoff spot. The Wildcats, meanwhile, have now won six straight games as they try and sneak into the No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference.

Charles Beaudoin scored the game-winner 1:52 into overtime, firing a shot over the glove of Ventsislav Shingarov. Alex Mercier and Jonas Taibel also scored for Moncton while Jacob Steinman made 32 saves in the win.

Noah Reinhart and Peter Reynolds scored for Saint John. Shingarov made 30 saves in the loss.

Game Day 62: at Moncton

MONCTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs continue their playoff push tonight in Moncton.

The Sea Dogs enter play tonight just one-point back of the Val-d'Or Foreurs, who currently own the QMJHL's 16th and final playoff spot. The Foreurs are in Baie-Comeau this evening while the Sea Dogs take on the Wildcats at Avenir Centre.

Saint John is coming off back-to-back home wins over the Cape Breton Eagles, which helped keep the team alive in the playoff race.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, have seemingly turned things around after a rough stretch in February. The team has won five straight games and could still finish as high as third in the Eastern Conference.
