Several Ex-Dogs Make AHL Debut

A number of former Saint John Sea Dogs made their American Hockey League debuts over the weekend.

On Saturday, former Sea Dogs captain Mike Thomas , who made his debut on Friday, recorded an assist, was a +1 and had three shots on goal in the Springfield Falcons’ 6-3 victory over Eric Gelinas and the Albany Devils. Gelinas, wearing No. 24, had no points and was a +1 in the loss.

Gelinas was a -2 with three shots on net in the Devils’4-2 loss to Brett Gallant and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Sunday. Gallant was pointless and had two shots.

Defenseman Simon Despres had three shots in his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins debut on Saturday. He had an even rating in the Penguins' 3-2 loss to the Hershey Bears. On Sunday, Despres had no points once again with an even rating and four shots in the Penguins' 1-0 shootout loss to the Connecticut Whale. Alex Grant made his season debut in that one, going pointless as well.

Speaking of the Baby Pens, former Sea Dog Nick Petersen is currently on the Pittsburgh Penguins’ injured reserve list with concussion symptoms.

Yann Sauve wore an ‘A’ on his sweater in the Chicago Wolves’ 3-2 shootout loss to the San Antonio Rampage Saturday. The Wolves played two games on the weekend and Steven Anthony did not play in either.

Also of note, Chris DiDomenico scored his first career AHL goal on Saturday in the Rockford IceHogs’ 3-2 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins.
