QUISPAMSIS, NB – The Saint John Sea Dogs begin pre-season play tonight at the qplex in Quispamsis.
The Sea Dogs host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan this evening at 7pm. At the time of this writing, tickets to the game were still available.
This is the pre-season opener for both clubs. Each has been practicing and scrimmaging this past week and each will be icing young and rookie filled lineups tonight.
Several of Saint John’s new prospects have looked good in scrimmages. Tonight, we should get to see how they do in a somewhat real game situation. There are quite a few roster spots up for grabs so this should be an entertaining exhibition schedule.
So yeah… that’s pretty much all we have to say heading into this game. Hopefully it’s a good one.
The Sea Dogs and Titan also play tomorrow in Bathurst and meet twice again next weekend.
Saint John’s last game was on March 27th in Game 4 of the first-round of the 2013 QMJHL playoffs against the Halifax Mooseheads. The Sea Dogs lost 6-1 and the series 4-0. Maxime Villemaire scored Saint John’s lone goal while Sebastien Auger made 44 saves in the loss.
Bathurst’s last game was on March 29th in Game 5 of the first-round of the QMJHL playoffs against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. The Titan lost the game 3-2 and the series 4-1. Raphael Lafontaine and Matthew Bissonnette scored for Bathurst while Jacob Brennan made 34 saves in the loss.
The Sea Dogs were 4-4-0-0 against the Titan last season while Bathurst was 4-3-1-0 against Saint John.
Their last meeting was on March 2 at the KC Irving Regional Centre where the Titan defeated the Sea Dogs 4-1. Patrik Zdrahal scored twice while for Bathurst while singles came from Christophe Lalancette and Michael Beaudry. Maxime Villemaire scored Saint John’s only goal. Alex Fournier made 52 saves in the loss while Jacob Brennan made 32 in the win.
- This is the first of four straight games against Bathurst. The Sea Dogs play the Titan in six of their next nine games.
- This is the third straight year that the Sea Dogs have played a pre-season game at the qplex. In 2011, the Sea Dogs defeated the PEI Rocket 5-4 in a shootout. Last year, the Sea Dogs beat the Rocket 6-2.
- Like Saint John, Bathurst made two picks in the first-round of the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft. They picked Guillaume Brisebois fifth overall and Christophe Boivin 14th overall.
- Here are the players the Titan have cut from Training Camp so far.
