SAINT JOHN - Harbour Station has officially been renamed TD Station.
The TD Bank Group purchased the naming rights to the Saint John Sea Dogs home arena earlier this month. The name change is part of a five-year sponsorship agreement between the bank and hockey club.
“We’re thrilled with the announcement of TD Station,” said Sea Dogs president and general manager Trevor Georgie in a news release. "The name maintains some of the history of the original and we look forward to what the future holds here. ‘Sea Dogs win the President Cup/Memorial Cup at TD Station’ has a nice ring to it.”
Harbour Station has had the same name since it was completed in 1993. The name is a tribute to the rail stations that once stood on the grounds.
Signage outside the arena has not been changed yet and it will likely take some time before everything gets changed over. The Harbour Station website also hasn't adjusted yet.
The Sea Dogs won't play any pre-season games at TD Station this year. They'll make their 2019-20 debut in the building on Sept. 20, hosting the Halifax Mooseheads on opening night.
