Nathan Beaulieu scored in last night’s scrimmage at Team Canada’s National Junior Team Development Camp in Edmonton.
Each period was counted as a game and the team with the most wins by nights end got to practice second this morning. Beaulieu scored in the first period as Team Red beat Team White 2-1, according to Hockey Canada’s Twitter feed.
Beaulieu finished off a nice passing play and beat the Team White goaltender five-hole. Highlights can be found over at TSN.ca.
Team Red, which features Beaulieu and his Saint John Sea Dogs teammate Jonathan Huberdeau, won the event.
According to TSN, Huberdeau had a goal and an assist.
Beaulieu was paired with Mark Pysyk of the Edmonton Oil Kings. Jonathan Huberdeau played wing on a line with Ryan Johansen and Patrick Holland. Mark Stone, who has been playing with Huberdeau and Johansen, didn't play.
Both squads are practicing today.

WJC Development Camp News & Notes
Summer Development Camp for Canada’s National Junior Team is well underway in Edmonton.
The 47 players attending the camp are split into two squads. Both teams practiced yesterday and today at Rexall Place. The two Saint John Sea Dogs participating – defenseman Nathan Beaulieu and forward Jonathan Huberdeau – are both on Team Red.
The most interesting bit of info from the camp so far is some speculation in the Edmonton Journal that Sea Dogs head coach Gerard Gallant could be joining the team.
With Montreal Juniors coach Pascal Vincent joining Claude Noel’s NHL staff with the Winnipeg Jets, Hockey Canada will be bringing in another assistant for Don Hay from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. It’s possibly Saint John Seadogs coach Gerard Gallant.According to a Hockey Canada press release, “the National Junior Team policy committee will not be making a decision on his replacement until after the development camp.”
The Vancouver Giants’ Don Hay is the head coach of this year’s team. Two of his three assistants are George Burnett of the Belleville Bulls and Ryan Huska of the Kelowna Rockets.

Sea Dogs Notebook
The MasterCard Memorial Cup is coming to one of New Brunswick’s smallest communities tomorrow.
The Daily Gleaner reports that Sea Dogs forward Zack Phillips will be bringing the Cup to Lougheed Pub in Harvey from 11am to 1pm.
Phillips, a first round pick of the Minnesota Wild in June’s NHL Draft, recorded the Memorial Cup winning goal in a 3-1 win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.
BEAULIEU IS STILL BETTER THAN YOU
The man that set the foundation for Saint John’s Memorial Cup victory is now using his Jedi GM moves in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sarnia Sting.
In just his first few months on the job, Beaulieu has made a splash with several signings. Buzzing The Net asks “has Jacques Beaulieu already won the off-season?”
It will be interesting to follow Beaulieu’s progress this season as he gets his second crack at head coaching and building a junior team.
TRADE PERIOD IS OPEN
The QMJHL Trade Period opened on Monday and had a relatively quiet opening day. As expected, former Lewiston Maineiac Cameron Critchlow was traded by the Victoriaville Tigres to the Halifax Mooseheads for a 2012 fifth round draft pick.
The Sea Dogs have yet to make any moves. The trade window closes on August 22nd.
SIGN OF THE TIMES
According to CHSJ News, the Saint John welcome signs will be getting some Sea Dogs flavour this fall.

The Mayor says the signs have been in the works ever since the Sea Dogs brought home the Memorial Cup, and he hopes they'll be up in September for when the new season starts.
Report: Manno Decommits From UMass
News broke Tuesday night that Joseph Manno has de-committed from UMass. Manno, a St. Laurent, Quebec native, was drafted by the Sea Dogs in the sixth round of the 2009 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft.

Sometime in recent weeks Joseph Manno backed out of his commitment to UMass. This isn’t a huge surprise as his original commitment seemed touch and go with conflicting reports about whether he had or not coming through at that time. Then there were rumors at the beginning of the summer that Manno was facing problems qualifying academically due to issues regarding transfer of credits from his school in Canada to his prep school in Connecticut. I’m not sure if that drove this decision or something else, but either way Manno will not be suiting up this fall. Coach Cahoon still has a sizable freshman class coming in, so someone should be able to step up and fill the minutes he may have provided. This could open up some minutes for an Andrew Tegeler or Emerson Auvenshine.
Reportedly Manno is exploring either catching on with Providence or going the major junior route with Saint Johns of the QMJHL.The fairly reliable @Canuckscout tweeted that Manno would be joining Saint John for the upcoming campaign. But, he later tweeted that there are some “conflicting reports” on Manno’s status.
Manno played for South Kent last year, recording 16 goals and 27 assists in 24 games.

WJC Development Camp Begins Today
Two Saint John Sea Dogs have been invited to attend the prestigious camp – forward Jonathan Huberdeau and defenseman Nathan Beaulieu. Both will play on Team Red along with fellow Quebec Major Junior Hockey Leaguers Louis Domingue, Brandon Gormley, Martin Lefebvre, and Michael Bournival.
QMJHL players on Team White include Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Sean Couturier, and Phillip Danault.
Forty-seven players will be attending in total. The camp roster includes four goaltenders, 17 defensemen and 26 forwards.
Both squads will practice today. Tomorrow features another round of practices and a scrimmage. Friday and Saturday will include games.
“This is (Head Coach) Donnie Hay getting his first look-see at kids ... he’ll be in the dark pretty much on everybody except the Western (Canadian) kids,” said Kevin Prendergast, chief scout for Hockey Canada, to the Edmonton Journal.
“If you have a crappy camp, you can hurt yourself. But if you don’t play well here, you just go back into the (big) pool once the hockey season starts to see if you’re invited for the final camp in December,” said Prendergast.
Beaulieu, who is the first player listed in the Team Canada Development Camp media guide, was also invited to last year’s camp in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This is Huberdeau’s first invitation.
Defenseman Simon Despres was the lone Sea Dog to make last year’s silver medal winning team.

Pre-Season Tickets Available Today
The Sea Dogs will play two exhibition games at Harbour Station and one at the Quispamsis qplex.
Saint John’s first home game will be played on August 20th against the Moncton Wildcats at the Station. They will also host the PEI Rocket at the qplex on August 27th and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on August 31st back at 99 Station St.
Pre-season tickets cost $5 to season-ticket holders and $9 to the general public. Tickets to the qplex game against PEI are $10.
Tickets to the August 27th game are also available at the qplex.
Pre-season tickets have been available to season-ticket holders since July 25th while tickets to August 27th game went on sale yesterday at the qplex.
Saint John will also play a couple of exhibition games on the road – one in Moncton and another in Charlottetown.
Sea Dogs Training Camp begins Wednesday, August 17th at Harbour Station.
