Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender Alex Bishop made a special guest appearance at Montreal Canadiens parctice this morning.

Bishop filled in for Carey Price, who was sick.

SHERBROOKE – The Saint John Sea Dogs continued their road trip through Quebec on Sunday, picking up their fifth straight win with a 5-3 victory over the Sherbrooke Phoenix

The victory moved the Sea Dogs into sole possession of first place in the Maritimes Division.

Goal scorers for the Sea Dogs were Matthew Highmore (two), Mathieu Joseph, Alexandre Bernier and Joe Veleno. Alex D’Orio made his second career start and improved to 2-0 by stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced.

Phoenix goal scorers were Benjamin Tardif, Kevin Gilbert and Anderson MacDonald. Evan Fitzpatrick took the loss for Sherbrooke, stopping 32 of 37 shots.

Game Day 7: at Sherbrooke

The big road trip continues today for the Saint John Sea Dogs (4-2-0-0) when they take on the Phoenix (2-3-0-1) in Sherbrooke. Game time is 4 p.m.

Sam Povorozniouk, Adam Bateman, Nicholas Blachman, Oliver Felixson, Mathieu Joseph and Nathan Noel all scored for Saint John. Sherbrooke goals came from Nicolas Poulin and Guillaume Gauthier. Marc-Antoine Turcotte made 17 saves in the win while Alexandre Lagace made 42 in the loss.

SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs kicked off their first road trip through Quebec this season on Friday night, taking on the Remparts at Quebec City’s Centre Videotron.

The Sea Dogs continued their winning ways, picking up their fourth straight win by knocking off the Remparts 4-2.

Goal scorers for the Sea Dogs were Samuel Dove-McFalls (two), Bokondji Imama and Matthew Highmore. Alex Bishop picked up his third win of the season by stopping 14 of the 16 shots he faced.

Remparts goal scorers were Ross MacDougall and Louis-Filip Cote. Callum Booth took the loss, making 31 saves on 34 opportunities.

The Saint John Sea Dogs (3-2-0-0) begin the longest trip in team history tonight in Quebec City when they take on the Remparts (3-2-0-0). Game time is 8 p.m.

The Remparts are coming off a 4-2 win over the Victoriaville Tigres at home Wednesday. Matthew Boucher, Jesse Sutton, Louis-Filip Cote and Derek Gentile scored for Quebec. Callum Booth made 30 saves in the win.

Brady Labrecque made 31 saves in the win while Marc-Antoine Turcotte made 27 stops in the loss.

Chabot to start NHL season with Ottawa

Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman Thomas Chabot will start the 2016-17 NHL season with the Ottawa Senators.

Pierre Dorion, Ottawa's general manager, confirmed the news today.

Chabot and Claesson will start the season in Ottawa.

The Senators made a number of roster moves yesterday, which created speculation that Chabot would stick with the Sens to start the season.

Chabot was a first-round pick of the Senators in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Now the question is how long will Chabot stay with the Sens. A few weeks? Until the world juniors? All season? Do the Sens want to burn a year of his entry-level contract? There's still plenty of questions to wonder about.

The absence of Chabot is, of course, a big loss for the Sea Dogs. The 19-year-old would be one of the best defencemen in the CHL and would likely average around a point-per-game.

Last season, Chabot had 11 goals and 34 assists in 47 games with Saint John. He added three goals and 18 assists in 17 playoff matches.

The Senators begin the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at home against Toronto.
