The 2013 President Cup Final between the Halifax
Mooseheads and Baie-Comeau Drakkar begins tonight at 8pm on Sportsnet.
A few things about it:
- The Sea Dogs have a few connections to the Mooseheads. Former Sea Dogs forward Stephen MacAulay, former assistant coach Jim Midgley, and former general manager Bob (Tipper) Leblanc now call Moose Country home.
- MacAulay has played in 11 post-season games this year, recording five goals and seven assists for 12 points. The 20-year old had 13 points in 17 playoff games with Saint John last year.
- Also, MacAulay will play in his fourth President Cup Final and 71st career QMJHL playoff game tonight. He’s looking to win his third league championship after winning his fourth regular season title earlier this year. That is an impressive resume.
- Metro Halifax had an article on MacAulay yesterday.
- This is the fourth straight year the President Cup Final has featured at least one Maritime team. A Maritime based team has won the past three QMJHL Championships (Moncton 2010, Saint John 2011 and 2012).
- The Mooseheads last appeared in the league final in 2005 where they lost to Sidney Crosby and the Rimouski Oceanic.
- Halifax will look to join Bathurst (1999), Moncton (2006 and 2010), and Saint John (2011 and 2012) as Maritime teams to win the President Cup.
- Games 1 and 2 of this series sold-out real fast. Tickets are, as you’d expect, pricy on Kijiji.
- The OHL Final has London taking on Barrie and the WHL has Edmonton facing Portland. The Memorial Cup begins May 17 in Saskatoon.
