Charlie Coyle and the Boston Bruins have advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Coyle has two goals and an assist in eight playoff games this year, which includes the Bruins' seeding games and a first-round series win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Bruins will face Mathieu Joseph and the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second-round. Joseph has yet to appear in any playoff games for the Lightning.
Coyle and Jospeh are the only two Sea Dogs alumni left in the NHL playoffs after Matthew Highmore and the Chicago Blackhawks were eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights. Highmore leaves the bubble with three goals and an assist in nine playoff games.
CARRUTHERS READY FOR CAMP
Leighton Carruthers, a first-round pick of the Sea Dogs, was one of the few players from Saint John's 2020 draft class to receive an invite to training camp. John Moore recently caught up with the forward.
Carruthers recorded 18 goals and 37 points in 35 games with the Halifax McDonald's last year.
USHL PLANS ON NOVEMBER RETURN
The USHL announced last week that it plans to start its 2020-21 regular season on Nov. 6. Pre-season games are expected to start mid-October.
The USHL is the latest junior league to officially announce a delayed start. Here's an updated look at when the most prominent junior leagues in North America plan on returning.
QMJHL: Oct. 1
USHL: Nov. 6
OHL: Dec. 1
BCHL: Dec. 1
WHL: Dec. 4
The NCAA, meanwhile, is still all over the place with its plans for winter sports.
The Maritime Hockey League announced in July that it's targeting an Oct. 2 start. There hasn't been any formal updates since then, but several teams have been announcing player signings in recent weeks.
The Fredericton Red Wings shared a survey with fans on social media this past week, which included questions about wearing a mask the entire time spent at a game and if fans would attend games with no concessions available. For those asking, there are no firm plans yet for the Maritime Hockey League as far as I know. My understanding is the league is waiting for direction from the government health authorities before setting a concrete timetable for a return to play.

2022 BID
The host of the 2021 Memorial Cup still has not been announced, but we do know that it will be either Sault Ste. Marie or Oshawa. Looking ahead to 2022, we know of Saint John's interest, and we also know that Quebec City remains interested as well.
The Remparts confirmed last week that they are still considering a bid to host the 2022 tournament. Quebec last hosted in 2015, which was the final season for Colisee Pepsi.
