EHC Winterthur, who play in the second tier of Swiss pro hockey below the National League, are off to a 2-0 start.
Former Moncton Wildcats forward Jonas Taibel is also playing with Winterthur this season.
Lawrence signed with the Swiss club this off-season after recording a second straight season of 100+ points in the QMJHL. Over five seasons of major junior hockey, the Fredericton native posted 118 goals and 193 assists in 288 games. He helped the Saint John Sea Dogs win the Memorial Cup in 2022 and the Halifax Mooseheads reach the league final last season.
Of note, Lawrence's younger brother, Tynan Lawrence, is a top prospect for the 2024 QMJHL Entry Draft. Tynan is playing in his second season at Shattuck St. Mary's, so college hockey is likely on his radar as well.
Former Sea Dogs defenseman Vincent Despont, meanwhile, is also playing his first season of pro hockey in the Swiss League. He appeared in two games with EHC Visp this past weekend.
Congratulations Josh!
