MHL training camps underway

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
It looks like a number of now former Saint John Sea Dogs have found homes in the Maritime Junior Hockey League for this upcoming season.

Ben Cross (Chaleur Lightning), Reid Calder (Grand Falls Rapids), Mitchell Wagner (Miramichi Timberwolves) and Matthew MacLean (Summerside Western Capitals) are all on MHL training camp rosters. All four spent last season with the Sea Dogs (or in Wagner's case, the second half) but were among the final cuts from this year's team.

Below is a look at all the notables on MHL training camp rosters. The list includes former Sea Dogs, draft picks and a few players who attended this year's training camp as free agents.

Amherst Ramblers - Jack O'Blenis, Joshua Henry and Jeremie Richard

Campbellton Tigers - None

Chaleur Lightning - Ben Cross, Carter McIllwraith and Jesse Dunlap

Edmundston Blizzard - None

Grand Falls Rapids - Brayden Campbell, Jonah Leard and Reid Calder

Miramichi Timberwolves - Mitchell Wagner

Pictou County Weeks Crushers - None

Summerside Western Capitals - Matthew MacLean, Coen Miller and Jase MacPherson

Truro Bearcats - None

Valley Wildcats - None

West Kent Steamers - Bryce Cunningham and Elliot Tozer

Yarmouth Mariners - None

It's worthing noting that these are training camp rosters, so not all of these players may end up in the MHL this season.

Joshua Henry, who appeared in one game with the Sea Dogs last season, was part of a trade on Aug. 25, which saw his rights go from Chaleur (formerly the Fredericton Red Wings, who have relocated to Bathurst) to Amherst.

The MHL pre-season is already underway. Regular season play begins Sept. 11.
