| Kassandra Blais/Baie-Comeau Drakkar |
The Sea Dogs erased a 3-0 deficit and scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 4-3 in overtime at the building formerly known as the Henry Leonard Centre. Alexis Joseph drew a penalty in the extra frame and then scored the game-winner.
This was Saint John's first win since Nov. 20 and they certainly didn't make it easy on themselves. The Drakkar led 2-0 after one thanks to a Saint John turnover that led to a breakaway goal and an unlucky deflection in front of the net. Then just 2:19 into the second, another Sea Dogs turnover led to another Drakkar goal to give the home side a 3-0 lead.
To Saint John's credit, they didn't fold. Dylan Rozzi scored at 13:16 of the second and then Joseph cut the deficit to 3-2 just under two-minutes later. The goals seemed to give Saint John some added energy heading into the third.
Angelo Fullerton tied the game just 2:30 into the final frame and Saint John killed off a lengthy five-on-three Drakkar power play to ultimately send the match to overtime, setting up Joseph's heroics.
Justin Robinson made 25 saves in the win.
Alexis Michaud, Mattias Gilbert and Joseph Cadorin scored for Baie-Comeau. Samuel Caulfield made 37 stops in the loss.
After a tumultuous few weeks, this feels like a massive win for the Sea Dogs, one they can hopefully build off of moving forward. The Drakkar are the lone team that sit below the Sea Dogs in the standings and a loss in this game would have been a tough one to handle.
