January's Best

Sebastien Auger has been, not surprisingly, named the Vaughn Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Goaltender of the Month for January.

From the QMJHL website:

The 19-ear-old native of St-Augustin-de-Desmaures registered six wins while posting a 2.61 goals-against-average and .933 save percentage.

Auger pushed away a total of 415 saves during that span, an average of just under 36 shots per game, while registering two shutouts. One of those came against the red hot Val-d’Or Foreurs offence. He finished the evening with 53 stops and first star honours.

The goaltender is starting his third season with the Sea Dogs organization. He has recorded a total of 50 wins. His career save percentage is an excellent .911.

It’s the second time this season he has earned the award.

Auger was also named the QMJHL’s second star for January. Quebec’s Anthony Duclair and Victoriaville’s Jonathan Diaby were named the first and third stars, respectively.

The Month Of Auger

We are less than a month into the season and Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender Sebastien Auger has already earned a bunch of awards/honours.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today that the 19-year old netminder has been named the Telus second star of the month and the Vaughn goaltender of the month. Auger was named last week’s first star in the QMJHL and CHL goaltender of the week.

Auger is certainly worthy of the recognition and is the key reason why Saint John is off to a fairly solid 4-2-0-1 start. The Sea Dogs are averaging 37.13 shots against per game, the most in the league.

Following last night’s 4-2 win over the Halifax Mooseheads, Auger’s record improved to 3-1-0-1 to go along with a 0.954 save percentage (best in the league) and 1.78 goals against average (second best in league). He has started every game since missing the first two of the season with a lower body injury. In those five games he has faced 40 or more shots three times.

Auger and the Sea Dogs travel to Sydney to take on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Friday night at 7pm.
