FIRST PERIOD

The Sea Dogs strike early in this game as Stephen MacAulay dents the twine at the 3:11 mark scoring off a nice feed from Ryan Tesink. Of note this is MacAulay's first goal of the season that did not come on the power play. 1-0 Dogs.

The Sea Dogs score again at the 6:46 mark on a bit of a strange goal with Ryan Tesink scoring from behind the net. Tesink threw the puck out front and it hit the stick of Lavoie and found its way into the back of the net. 2-0 Dogs.

The Sea Dogs wouldn't stop there adding their third goal of the opening frame at the 13:44 mark when Michael Mastrangelo buried a pass from Noah Zilbert. It was Mastranelo's first goal and point in the QMJHL and Zilbert also registered his first Quebec League point with the assist. Also add an assist for Andreas Tsogkas on this play. 3-0 Dogs.

The Screaming Eagles would get on the board a short time later when the always dangerous William Carrier tipped home his 11th of the season at 15:10 to round out the 1st period scoring. Assists went to Lavoie and Hache. 3-1 Dogs.

There were two real nice hits in the first period by Cuomo on Oligny and later a big hit by Repe on rookie Cole Murphy.

SECOND PERIOD

Hard to top the 1st period ...

Woodworth took a penalty for interference but shortly after Huberdeau matched the infraction with one of his own.  Alexandre Lavoie managed to bring the Eagles to within one on the shortened power play on a brilliant feed from a falling William Carrier at the 7:15 mark. Give assists on the Lavoie goal to Carrier and Kyle Farrell. 3-2 Dogs.

The Sea Dogs managed to get that one back at 14:10 when a rewarded Marcus Cuomo buried his 2nd of the season.  Cuomo spent much of the night on the Sea Dogs second line with Oliver Cooper and Stephen Anderson. Give assists on Cuomo's goal to Huberdeau and LeBlanc. 4-2 Dogs.

Tough Month Ahead For Sea Dogs

The Saint John Sea Dogs have a busy month ahead of them.

The Sea Dogs will play 11 games this month. Eight of those games will be played on the road which includes five games played in Quebec.

Here’s a look at the schedule:

November 2 – at Cape Breton
November 4 – vs Shawinigan
November 9 – at Sherbrooke
November 10 – at Drummondville
November 11 – at Blainville-Boisbriand
November 16 – at Cape Breton
November 18 – at Bathurst
November 24 – vs Cape Breton
November 25 – vs Baie-Comeau
November 28 – at Rouyn-Noranda
November 29 – at Val-d’Or

That’s a lot of games. That’s a lot of road games. But when you break it down, it’s probably not as bad as it could have been. Of the nine different teams the Sea Dogs will play in November, six of them are currently in the lower half of the QMJHL standings.

A few storylines to watch for include Shawinigan’s first meeting with Saint John since the Memorial Cup, the Sea Dogs travelling to Sherbrooke for the first time, three games against Cape Breton, and a rematch with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar following the Ryan Tesink suspension.

Looking ahead, the Sea Dogs have home heavy December schedule with just three road games.

SYDNEY, NS – An interesting stretch of games begins for the Saint John Sea Dogs tonight in Cape Breton.

The Sea Dogs had their ups and downs in October. But if there was ever a time to get some momentum going, it might be right now. Saint John plays three of the worst teams in the league over the next week, meaning there is certainly a possibility of starting November off on a good note.

Saint John plays Cape Breton tonight at 7pm at Centre 200. They then host the Shawinigan Cataractes on Sunday afternoon and travel to Sherbrooke next Friday.

The Screaming Eagles currently sit sixth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 15^th overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with a 5-8-2-2 record. The Eagles are 4-5-1-0 in their last 10 games and have won two straight games. Cape Breton has allowed 73 goals against which is the second most in the league.

Alexandre Lavoie currently leads the Eagles in scoring with 27 points in 17 games. William Carrier is second on the team in scoring with 26 points.

The Sea Dogs enter play tonight with a record of 8-8-0-0 and sit fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 13^th overall in the QMJHL. They are 4-6-0-0 in their last 10 games.

Jonathan Huberdeau still leads the Sea Dogs in scoring with 20 points in 16 games.

This will be the first meeting between the Sea Dogs and Screaming Eagles since the first round of last year’s playoffs. Saint John dominated that series and eliminated the Eagles in a four-game sweep.

The CHLPA Is A Disaster

If you haven’t been following the CHLPA drama over the past week, you’ve really been missing out on some bizarre stuff.

The Globe and Mail is reporting tonight that the CHLPA’s executive director, Georges Laraque, “intends to leave the association as soon as a suitable replacement can be found.” This comes after days of speculation that a man working behind the scenes, "Derek Clarke," has been going under a fake identity or doesn’t even exist.

Long story short: the CHLPA is a disaster and appears to be on the brink of collapse.

The Globe and Mail also reports that Laraque is currently is Sydney where he will meet with Screaming Eagles players Friday. The Sea Dogs play the Eagles later that night. This should be fun.
