Wednesday night before 2,694 fans in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

begin a big road trip.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs
fell to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada by a score of 2-1 in Quebec Major
Junior Hockey League action Wednesday night in front of 2,694 fans at Harbour
Station.
MISSING IN ACTION: The Sea Dogs were without Benjamin
Hade, Matthew Highmore, Spencer Smallman, Mackenzie Brown, Pierre Durepos, Stephen
Anderson, and Devon Oliver-Dares on Sunday.
According to News 88.9, Oliver-Dares was out with what
the team called a “maintenance day.”
FIRST PERIOD: Blainville-Boisbriand netted the opening
goal at 4:57 and it took the Sea Dogs until the final minute of the frame to tie
it up. Saint John had three power play opportunities and scored on one of them.
They would outshoot the Armada 11-6.
TESINK: Sea Dogs forward Ryan Tesink returned from his
two-game suspension last night. He made his presence known in the first period tying
the game at 1-1 with 31 seconds left. As it turned out, that would be the only
goal of the game. Tesink finished with a team high six shots and a -1 rating.
SECOND PERIOD: The Armada took it up a notch in the
second period, outshooting the Sea Dogs by a 14-4 margin. Cedric Paquette
scored on a simple tap in thanks to a cross crease pass at 13:15 to give the
Armada a 2-1 lead after two.
THIRD PERIOD: In the third, it was the Sea Dogs who
showed off offensively as the Armada sat back a bit and protected their lead – and it
worked. Saint John outshot Blainville-Boisbriand 14-8 in the final 20 minutes but could not score.
GOALTENDING: Both Sebastien Auger and Etienne Marcoux had
solid performances in their respective nets. Auger made 26 saves in the loss
while Marcoux made 28 for the win. Marcoux has the second best goals against average (2.09)
in the league and the third best save percentage (0.921).
HUBERDEAU: Jonathan Huberdeau has, in terms of points
anyways, slowed down a bit over the past few games. Last night he registered an
assist on Ryan Tesink’s goal. Huberdeau has two assists over his past four
games. He still leads Saint John in scoring with 20 points in 16 games.
REGULATION: With last night’s loss, the Sea Dogs went the
entire month of October without a win in regulation time. They did have four
wins in October – two in a shootout and two in overtime. Their last regulation
win came on September 30 in Moncton.
CROWD: Apparently holding a sporting event on Halloween
night is a very, very bad thing. The attendance was just 2,694 last night which is Saint John’s smallest crowd of the season and one of the smaller crowds to
ever attend a Sea Dogs game at Harbour Station. According to an article in the Telegraph-Journal last week, the Sea Dogs have 2,540 season ticket holders this
season.
RECORD: The Sea Dogs are now back at .500 once again with
an 8-8-0-0 record. Saint John now sits fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and
13th overall in the league with 16 points. Despite the .500 record,
the Dogs are just two points back of both Bathurst and Moncton five points back
of PEI in the division.
NOTES: Marc-Olivier Roy was given an unsportsmanlike
penalty 18:14 of the first after giving a snow shower to Saint John goaltender
Sebastien Auger… both teams went 1-for-5 on the power play… Stefan Matteau and
Christopher Clapperton each had five shots… Nikita Jevpalovs had four hits…
David Weckworth had three hits for Saint John… Oliver Cooper took two minor
penalties… Xavier Ouellet is good.
