Anderson Officially Traded To Foreurs

The Stephen Anderson trade has been made official.

The Sea Dogs announced today that they have traded the 20-year old forward to the Val-d’Or Foreurs in exchange for a 2015 12^th-round draft pick.

In a press release, Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young explained the deal.

"As an organization, we decided Stephen would not be playing for us following his injury," said Young. "Stephen, his family and his agent all expressed a desire to have him continue to play in the QMJHL. We felt an obligation to try to accommodate him.

"We wish Stephen a healthy and successful career going forward."

Anderson has not played a game since taking a hard hit on January 5, a hit that forced him to spend time in hospital.

A sixth-round pick of the Sea Dogs in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft, Anderson registered 29 goals and 39 assists in 127 career regular season games.

The trade leaves Saint John with three 20-year olds on their current roster: forward Mark Tremaine, defenseman Michael Abbott, and goaltender Sebastien Auger.

Sea Dogs Make A Trade

Less than a week from the beginning of training camp, the Saint John Sea Dogs have made a trade.

The Sea Dogs announced today that they have acquired defenseman Gareth Nicholson from the Moncton Wildcats in exchange for d-man Jeremy Doucet.

Nicholson, 19, has spent the last two seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. A sixth-round pick of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the 2012 QMJHL Entry Draft, Nicholson registered a goal and six assists in 54 games in his rookie season. Last year, the Kentville native was held pointless in 20 games with the Eagles. He was dealt to the Wildcats during the holiday trading period where he posted a goal and an assist in 19 contests.

"Gareth is a strong, solid, stay-at-home defender who will come to camp and push for a spot,” said Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young in a press release. “He provides us with depth through our back end. As well, he will be one of the best conditioned student-athletes in our camp, something of an example for all our young players."

Nicholson is listed at 6'0", 206 lbs.

Doucet, who will soon turn 19, has spent the past one-and-a-half seasons with Saint John. In 74 career games with the Sea Dogs, the Dieppe native registered a goal and nine assists.

"Jeremy Doucet has played well for the Sea Dogs over the past year-and-a-half, but he informed us about two weeks ago that he intended to play Junior A in Dieppe," said Young.

Sea Dogs training camp begins next Monday.

U-17 Camp Ends; U-18 Camp Continues

Canada’s under-17 development camp came to an end yesterday.

Sea Dogs prospect Julien Tessier scored in Team Green’s 5-1 win over Team Black. Tessier also picked up a slashing penalty in the second period.

Tessier finished the camp with one goal in three games. Team Green lost their first two games by scores of 5-1.

Luke Green’s Team Blue lost their final game of camp yesterday, falling 4-3 to Team Gold. Green was held pointless in three games but did pick up four penalty minutes in an 8-1 loss on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Canada’s under-18 selection camp is under way in Calgary. Sea Dogs forward Nathan Noel is taking part and is on Team White.

Team White got off to a rough start, losing their opening game 6-0 to Team Red on Sunday. White rebounded yesterday but still lost 3-2. Noel was held pointless in both games but did pick up a roughing penalty on Monday.

White faces Red again today. The Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament begins next Monday in Slovakia and Czech Republic.

Pre-Season Tickets On Sale This Morning

Tickets to the Saint John Sea Dogs’ three pre-season home games go on sale to the general public this morning at 10am.

Saint John hosts the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on August 15, the Halifax Mooseheads on August 22, and the Charlottetown Islanders on September 5 in pre-season QMJHL action.

Tickets to the Sea Dogs’ exhibition opener are free of charge. The Harbour Station website says tickets can only be picked up in person at the box office and cannot be “purchased” over phone or online.

Seats to Saint John’s other pre-season games cost $10.

The Sea Dogs’ pre-season schedule also has them playing the Mooseheads in Dartmouth and Truro and the Islanders in Charlottetown.

Saint John’s regular season begins in Charlottetown on September 12. Their home opener is on September 19 against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

It appears Luke Green is making a decent impression at Canada’s under-17 development camp.

Green, selected first overall by Saint John in May’s QMJHL Entry Draft, has been taking part in the camp this week in Calgary. The camp continues today and ends tomorrow with every team in action.

The Sea Dogs defensive prospect is on Team Blue and helped them win their opening game 5-4 over Team Black on Friday.

August Has Arrived

SAINT JOHN – Welcome to August.

By now you are probably realizing that summer is winding down and that the weather has been kind of suckish, you still haven’t painted that stupid deck, and it’s probably going to snow any day now. But hey, it’s August, which means hockey returns soon and joy and happiness comes along with it.

In just over a week, Sea Dogs training camp begins. Two weeks from tonight the Sea Dogs host the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in pre-season action. Hockey season is almost here.

Here are some important dates to remember this month:
