SN Live Blog replay. It’s finally over.

MISSING IN ACTION: Dylan McGuigan (healthy), Spencer MacDonald (bicep), Devon Oliver-Dares (collarbone), Maxime Villemaire (knee), and Ian Saab (suspension) were all scratched for Saint John.

Grant West, who missed Tuesday’s game with flu symptoms, was back in.

SWEEP: For the second year in a row, the Sea Dogs ended the Screaming Eagles’ season with a four-game sweep in the first round. Saint John outscored the Eagles 34-8 in this year’s series and 26-2 in last year’s.

It’s the third time in four years that a Saint John/Cape Breton first round series ended in a sweep.

COYLE: Charlie Coyle scored his ninth goal of the playoffs last night, a goal that proved to be the game winner. Coyle finishes the first round with an incredible nine goals and four assists in 12 periods of hockey.

As Roszell mentioned on his blog, Coyle scored three game winners in the series.

RECORDS: The 34 goals Saint John scored is the most they have ever scored in a single playoff series.

Stanislav Galiev and Tomas Jurco scored 11 seconds apart in the third period which set a team playoff record for the fastest two goals scored.

From Roszell’s blog: “Galiev’s three points give him 58 in his Sea Dog playoff career, a new franchise record. He’s also the active QMJHL playoff points leader”

SCORING: Saint John had three other players reach double digits in points in this series. Stanislav Galiev had three goals and nine assists, Zack Phillips two goals and 10 assists, and Tomas Jurco three goals and eight assists.

CORBEIL: Solid game for Mathieu Corbeil who had to make quite a few good saves. The Eagles had 34 shots on goal including 13 in the second period. Without Corbeil’s performance, this game could have been a bit more interesting.

The 20-year old was a little shaky in Game 1 but seems to have gotten better each game.

CARRIER: William Carrier showed in this series that he has a bright future ahead. Carrier scored three goals and added three assists in the four-game series which is quite good considering Cape Breton scored just eight times.

The Eagles announced today that Carrier has been added to Team Canada’s Under-18 team.

NOTES: Eagles overagers Jonathan Brunelle and Sebastien Payette played their final QMJHL games… Stanislav Galiev had a Sea Dogs high six shots… Charlie Coyle had three hits… Brunelle had seven shots for the Eagles… Kyle Campbell had five hits for Cape Breton… the Sea Dogs had one power play goal on six opportunities in the game… Saint John had too many players on the ice at the start of the second period and were given a delay of game penalty… the Eagles had just one power play goal on 15 chances in the series… the Sea Dogs outshot the Eagles 166-89 in the series.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs take on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar next Friday, April 6 at 7:30pm at Harbour Station in Game 1 of their quarter-final series.
