Official: Fortin Traded To Shawinigan

The Louis-Philip Fortin trade has been made official.

According to the QMJHL website, the Sea Dogs have traded Fortin to the Shawinigan Cataractes in exchange for third and fourth (Chicoutimi’s) round picks in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft.

Fortin, a 16-year-old defenseman, has seven goals and 13 assists in 29 Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League games with the Magog Cantonniers this season.

The Sea Dogs acquired Fortin and a 2017 fourth round pick from the Quebec Remparts in August in exchange for Alex McQuaid and a 2015 fifth round pick. Fortin was a fifth round pick of the Remparts in the 2014 draft.

All things considered, this appears to be a good return for Saint John.

This deal was first reported by La Nouvelliste's Steve Turcotte on Saturday. According to the Cataractes’ Twitter feed, Fortin is expected to play on Thursday when Shawinigan visits the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
