Game Day 57 & 58: at Cape Breton

SYDNEY, NS - Just eight regular season games remain for the Saint John Sea Dogs – and half of those will be against the Cape Breton Eagles.

The Sea Dogs visit the Eagles for a pair of games this weekend. The two will battle Saturday night at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Cape Breton will visit Saint John March 21-22 to close out the regular season.

Saint John is coming off a 4-2 home win over the Halifax Mooseheads, a victory that ended an 11-game losing streak. The Dogs have lost six straight road games entering this weekend.

2024-25 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 20-36-0-0 for 40 points (sixth Maritimes/10th Eastern/17th QMJHL) while the Eagles are 28-19-4-3 for 63 points (second Maritimes/fifth Eastern/10th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-2 win over the Halifax Mooseheads on Thursday. Tyler Peddle scored twice while Dylan Rozzi and Olivier Groulx added singles. Eric Young made 24 saves in his first QMJHL win. The Eagles are coming off a 3-1 win over the Charlottetown Islanders on Sunday. Cole Burbidge had a pair of goals for the Eagles while Andrew Brown also scored. Alexis Cournoyer made 27 saves in the win. 

2024-25 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 2-2-0-0 against the Eagles this season while Cape Breton is 2-0-1-1 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Feb. 17 in Saint John where the Eagles defeated the Sea Dogs 4-2. Jacob Newcombe scored twice for Cape Breton with Angelo Fullerton and Joseph Henneberry added singles. Olivier Groulx and Ben Cross scored for Saint John. Jakub Milota made 35 saves in the win. Eric Young made 36 stops in the loss.

Eagle to watch: Cam Squires has a goal and five assists in just three games against Saint John this season.

Random stat: The Sea Dogs have not won back-to-back games since Dec. 13-14.
