Recap: Sea Dogs lose 7-4

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs lost their second straight home game on Sunday, falling 7-4 to Gordie Dwyer's Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

Ben Allison scored four goals - with the fourth being an empty netter - to lead the Titan to a rare road victory. Entering the game, Bathurst had just two road wins all season, tying them with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for the fewest in the league.

Noah Ryan, Jacob Melanson and Dylan Andrews also scored for the Titan. Defenseman Ty Higgins had three assists. Sergei Litvinov made 33 saves in the win.

Bathurst scored two quick goals near the midway mark of the first period only to have Saint John storm back and tie the game before the frame ended. The Titan then scored twice in the second to lead 4-2. Pavel Simek connected at 7:55 of the third to make it a one-goal game, but any momentum gained from that ended when Allison completed his hat trick just 21 seconds later to make it 5-3.

Simek scored a pair of goals for Saint John while singles came from Connor Trenholm and Jared Cosman. Ventsislav Shingarov made 40 saves in the loss.

Game Day 28: vs Titan

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs will look to stay perfect against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan this afternoon at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs are 2-0-0-0 against Gordie Dwyer's Titan squad this season. Today's 3 p.m. contest will be the first meeting between the two provincial rivals since Oct. 28.

Saint John had a three-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night, falling 8-5 to the Moncton Wildcats. The Sea Dogs were without their top defensive pairing - Charlie DesRoches and Nate Tivey - in that game. Tivey should return from a suspension today.

Nikolas Hurtubise was pulled after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the first period. Ventsislav Shingarov allowed four goals on 25 shots in relief. The Titan are coming off a 5-2 home win over the Charlottetown Islanders on Friday. Jacob Melanson scored twice for Bathurst while singles came from Ty Higgins, Dylan Andrews and Ben Allison. Joshua Fleming made 26 saves in the win.

SAINT JOHN - The Moncton Wildcats scored early and often in an 8-5 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs on Friday at TD Station.

The Wildcats scored just 29 seconds into the game and they continued to pile on the goals until the midway point of the second period. Saint John stormed back late in the second and early in the third, getting within a goal. Charles Beaudoin's power play marker at 13:08 of the third gave Moncton some insurance and put the game away.

The loss ended a season high three-game winning streak for Saint John, a streak that saw them allow two of fewer goals in every victory. But the loss of Charlie DesRoches and Nate Tivey - the team's top defensive pairing - seemed to be a hurdle the team could not get over in this game.

Sea Dogs goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise was pulled after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the first period. Ventsislav Shingarov allowed four goals on 25 shots in relief.

Preston Lounsbury and Etienne Morin each scored twice for the Wildcats while singles came from Beaudoin, Miles Mueller, Francesco Iasenza and Nicolas Paven. Maxim Barbashev had four assists. Vincent Filion allowed five goals on 39 shots in the win.

Brady Burns, Danny Akkouche, Cam MacDonald, Eriks Mateiko and Alexis Cournoyer scored for Saint John. 

Game Day 27: vs Wildcats

SAINT JOHN - For the first time in over a month, the Saint John Sea Dogs clash with the Moncton Wildcats tonight.

The Sea Dogs have lost all three meetings against their provincial rivals this season. While that's not a positive for Saint John, there have been lots of positives over their three most recent games. The Dogs enter tonight's tilt against the Wildcats on a season high three-game winning streak.

The Wildcats sit second in the Maritimes Division but have been unable to keep pace with the Halifax Mooseheads. Moncton has had just an okay first half and are 4-5-0-1 in their last 10 games.

FINAL: Blainville-Boisbriand 1, Saint John 2

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs survived a wild final few minutes to defeat the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 2-1 on Wednesday night at TD Station.

The Armada spent most of the final few minutes of the third period on the power play after Nate Tivey was given a match penalty for high sticking at 15:06. Saint John's penalty kill has struggled all season but had perhaps its best performance in the final couple minutes, not allowing the league's seventh best power play to tie the game. The Sea Dogs did all this without their top defense pairing - Tivey was tossed from the game and Charlie DesRoches was injured in the first period.

Nikolas Hurtubise, who was excellent in Saint John's overtime victory over the Armada on Sunday, made 33 stops in the victory. Vincent Despont and Connor Trenholm scored for Saint John.

The victory is Saint John's third straight. It's the team's longest winning streak of the season.

Jonathan Fauchon, who also scored on Sunday, had the Armada's lone goal. Nicholas Sheehan made 25 stops in the loss.

Game Day 26: vs Armada

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs and and St. John's Fog Devils Montreal Junior Blainville-Boisbriand Armada play the second half of a home-and-home tonight at TD Station.

The two expansion cousins met on Sunday in the Montreal area where the Sea Dogs earned a 3-2 overtime victory. Cam MacDonald netted the winner at 2:29 of the extra frame to earn Saint John the extra point - and a second straight victory.

Saint John carries a two-game winning streak into tonight's match while the Armada have lost six straight. 

This is the first game of a three-game road trip for the Armada. The team visits Halifax tomorrow night and Cape Breton on Sarturday.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.
