CHICOUTIMI , Que. – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
had a brief trading period this morning where a number of rumoured and reported
deals were finalized.
The first deal of the day saw the Moncton Wildcats trade
Ross Johnston and a 2013 second rounder to the Victoriaville Tigres in exchange for a 2014 first round import
pick and a 2015 first round Q pick. That transaction was part of the Phillip
Danault deal.
Halifax sent Matthew Boudreau to the Shawinigan
Cataractes, a deal that was reported last week. The Mooseheads got their own
2014 first round pick back in the trade which was then flipped to Val-d’Or for
Halifax’s own 2015 first.
Bathurst dealt Christophe Lalancette to Drummondville in
exchange for the Titan’s own 2014 first round pick.
Also, Quebec traded Axel Rioux to Sherbrooke in exchange
for a 2015 fourth round pick, Drummondville sent goaltender Domenic Graham to
Chicoutimi for a 2014 fifth rounder, and Baie-Comeau traded Francis Desrosiers
to the Phoenix for a 2013 fifth round selection.
New Jersey Devils prospect Stefan Matteau Jr had his rights
traded to Rimouski from Blainville-Boisbriand for a 2013 third round pick and a
2014 second round pick. It’s unclear if he’ll play in the QMJHL next season,
though.
There were also some draft picks swapped for other draft
picks because this is the QMJHL and that’s how things roll.
The Saint John Sea Dogs, not surprisingly, made no deals
today. The trading period starts up again at tomorrow’s draft.
