Notebook: Looking back at the 2011 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game

Let's take a look back at the 2011 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game because... why not?

The CHL has been taking a look back at previous Top Prospects Games, and this past week it was the 2011 event's turn. That game was dominated by Sea Dogs with Jonathan Huberdeau, Zack Phillips, Tomas Jurco and Nathan Beaulieu all playing in front of a sparse crowd at the Air Canada Centre.
Phillips recorded a goal and two assists; Huberdeau a goal and an assist; and Beaulieu a goal.

The entire game can be watched on the CHL website.

WEBCAST IMPROVEMENTS
Fan feedback to last week's news that Neulion was returning as the QMJHL's webcast provider was, understandably, quite negative. So here's some good news: improvements are coming.

The Sherbrooke Phoenix have confirmed they are improving their single camera feed by adding more angles. The Acadie-Bathurst Titan are currently looking to hire a webcast producer. We're told by multiple league sources that many of the minimum standards the new provider was set to put in place will remain - which is all good news given that more fans than ever will be relying on the broadcasts for coverage this season.

The league has not released any official details about this year's webcasts.

SEASON TICKETS
Sea Dogs season tickets - which may be the only way to watch the team in-person this season - are selling quickly.

The team said last week that fewer than 150 season passes remain for 2020-21.
EAGLES TO ALLOW FANS
This weekend's Sea Dogs pre-season road games in Sydney will be in front of fans.

The Cape Breton Eagles have announced that the Friday night and Saturday afternoon contests will allow fans. The Eagles posted the rules on their website.

The more notable rules include:
  • Masks must be worn the entire game.
  • No concessions will be open.
  • "It is expected that once you enter the building you head directly to your seat and only vacate when a washroom break is needed, this includes remaining seated during intermissions."
  • "The distribution or sale of a ticket after purchase is strictly prohibited."
The games will be broadcast on YouTube as well.

BOURQUE ADDED TO ROSTER
18-year-old goaltender Justin Bourque's name (an unfortunate name to have in these parts) has been added to Saint John's online roster.

Bourque spent the majority of last season with the Valleyfield Braves of the QJAAHL, recording a 2.60 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 18 games. He also appeared in four games with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, allowing five goals on 37 shots in a total if 69:51 played over two games.

Bourque was recently acquired by the MHL's Valley Wildcats.
The move gives the Sea Dogs some much needed goalie depth if an injury occurs at any point during the season.

DIXON MENTIONED
Could former Sea Dogs head coach Josh Dixon be heading to the OHL?

BarrieToday.com mentioned Dixon last week as a possible candidate for the Barrie Colts' vacant head coaching position. The team recently let go one of its long-time assistant coaches and is searching for a new bench boss.

Before joining the Sea Dogs in 2017, Dixon previously worked as an assistant coach in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos and Regina Pats.

Dixon was fired by the Sea Dogs last December.
