Notes: The Halifax Mooseheads enter play today with a record of 10-22-0-1 which is good for 21 points on the year and are currently two points back of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles for fifth in the Maritimes Division. The Mooseheads sit 16th overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, only five points up on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for the final playoff spot… Halifax is coming off a well played loss against one of the league’s best in the Quebec Remparts last night at the Halifax Metro Centre. Alex Lemieux scored the lone Mooseheads goal in a 3-1 loss to Patrick Roy’s club. Halifax, however, outshot the Remparts in each period for a game total of 30-19. Goaltender Mathieu Corbeil made 16 stops in the loss with the last Remparts goal coming via an empty netter… the Mooseheads have lost three consecutive contests and six of their last seven. They are 3-7-0-0 in their last 10 games… 4-10-0-0 on the road this season and have been outscored 55-37 along the way… Halifax continues to struggle offensively. They currently sit 15th in the league with only 94 goals scored on the season. They are averaging 2.84 goals per game. Only five teams in the QMJHL have failed to record 100 or more goals this season… Halifax’s defense hasn’t been all that stellar this season either, allowing the 13th most goals in the QMJHL with 126 allowed over 33 games. That is an average of 3.81 goals against per game… Halifax is third in league penalty minutes with 600 minutes spent in the box this season. The Mooseheads also lead the league in fighting this season with 47 tilts. Sawyer Hannay leads the way with 10 fights… the Mooseheads power play hasn’t been great this season and sits 16th on the league with a rating of 0.143… Halifax’s penalty kill hasn’t been all that amazing either. It is ranked 14th on the league with a rating of 0.755… despite Halifax’s scoring woes, Martin Frk is having a solid rookie season in the Canadian Hockey League. He leads the Mooseheads in points with 31 on the year and sits second in rookie scoring… Frk also leads the team in assists with 20… Carl Gelinas has scored a team best 14 goals this season… former Sea Dog defenseman and current Moosehead overager Pascal Amyot is a team worst -14 on the year. Two players are ranked just below him with a -13 rating… based on goaltenders who have played 660 or minutes this season, the Mooseheads have the worst goaltending duo in the QMJHL. Rookie Anthony Terenzio is second to last in goals against average at 3.46, while Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Mathieu Corbeil has a league worst 3.65 GAA. Corbeil sits fourth overall in the league in loses with four... according to the Chronicle Herald, defenseman Simon Desmarais and forwards Matthew Boudreau and Andrew Ryan were healthy scratches last night.

Notes: The Saint John Sea Dogs come into play today with a record of 26-4-0-2 which places them first in the Maritimes Division with 54 points and 10 points up on the second place Acadie-Bathurst Titan. The Sea Dogs sit first overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and are two points up on second place Quebec and Montreal. Saint John has, however, two games in hand over the Remparts and one over the Juniors… in this week’s edition of the BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings, the Sea Dogs were ranked first overall for the first time this season… Saint John is coming off a tough loss against the Lewiston MAINEiacs on Friday in southern Maine. The Sea Dogs fired 46 shots on net but could only beat Nicholas Champion twice in a 5-2 defeat. Simon Despres and Jonathan Huberdeau scored the two Saint John markers. Frederic Piche took the loss in net… Friday’s loss was the Sea Dogs first regulation loss since October 22 in Bathurst. Since that time, Saint John had picked up at least a point in their last 17 outings… the Sea Dogs are 9-1-0-0 in their last 10 games and had a 10-game winning streak snapped on Friday… Saint John still leads the league in goals scored this season with 155 in 32 contests… today is the Sea Dogs’ final home game of the first half. They are undefeated in regulation at Harbour Station so far this season with a record of 16-0-0-1. They have outscored their opposition 89-35 along the way, averaging 5.2 goals per game… Saint John has the sixth best power play in the league with a rating of 0.229. They went 1/3 against Lewiston’s solid penalty kill Friday… the Sea Dogs also have the sixth best penalty kill in the QMJHL with a rating of 0.818. At home, they are running at 0.852… Jonathan Huberdeau leads the Sea Dogs in scoring with 48 points on the year… Huberdeau and Zach Phillips are each tied for the team lead in goals with 22. The two are tied for third overall in the league in goals scored… Michael Kirkpatrick leads the Dogs in assists with 27... Phillips is tied for the league lead in power play goals with 10… Phillips is also tied for the league lead in game winning goals with six… Jacob DeSerres will likely start in net for the Dogs. The 20-year old has record of 10-1-0-0, a goals against average of 2.45, and a save percentage of 0.908. He has not played since Wednesday versus PEI… Simon Despres sits third overall in QMJHL defenseman scoring but he will not play today. The ‘Big Horse’ is currently in Toronto for Hockey Canada’s world junior evaluation camp… Steven Anthony left Friday’s game after appearing to hurt his hand in the first period by blocking a shot. He did not return. His status for today is unknown.

The Mooseheads played well in a 3-1 loss to Quebec last night.
"It’s tough because I think it was probably our best game of the year," said Mooseheads winger Alex Lemieux about the loss to the Chronicle Herald. "They’re a good team, they’re fast. But I think we worked harder than them tonight. I don’t think anybody thought we could win but we were believing we could win. At the end it was just a couple of mistakes and it cost us the game."
NOTES
- This is the final Sea Dogs home game until New Years Eve against the Moncton Wildcats.
- The Sea Dogs can’t take the Mooseheads lightly. Last season on December 17 at Harbour Station and the Sea Dogs ranked second overall in the country at the time, the Mooseheads beat Saint John 4-2 in what was one of the more forgettable games of the season.
- The Sea Dogs have not lost two consecutive regulation games this season.
