Saturday, it's Saint John Flames Tribute Night as the Sea Dogs take on the Shawinigan Cataractes (36-16-2-1) at 7 p.m. In honour of the 10th anniversary of the Calder Cup championship, the Sea Dogs will be paying tribute to professional hockey's memorable 10-year run in the city. The players will wear special throwback jerseys, and former Flames Marty Murray and Doug Doull will be in attendance, along with the Calder Cup and other memorabilia. The special jerseys will be auctioned right off the players' backs at the end of the night.The Flames spent 10 seasons in Saint John before departing. The franchise was operated out of Harbour Station from the 1993-94 season to the 2002-03 campaign. The arena sat empty for two seasons until the Sea Dogs arrived on the scene in 2005.
The pinnacle of the franchise was in 2001 when they claimed their first – and only – Calder Cup championship. The team beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in six games to win the AHL’s holy grail, including a 1-0 victory in Game Six of the final at Harbour Station to clinch the victory.
