GALLANT BEING GALLANT

Former Saint John Sea Dogs enforcer Brett Gallant recently signed with the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Gallant, who is the Sea Dogs franchise leader in penalty minutes, has not lost his fighting skills over the years.

Last Sunday in a loss against the Hershey Bears, Gallant had an epic tilt with Joel Rechilcz. From Sweetest Hockey on Earth:

Soon it became 3-1 Bears as Joel Rechlicz (yes, Joel Rechlicz) scored his first goal of the season. Not only his first goal, but his first ever AHL goal and his first goal since his 2007-2008 IHL season (s/t to Tim Leone for that fact). Right after, Rechlicz dropped the gloves with Brett Gallant. It was a brilliant fight, both guys got in some huge punches and the fight lasted for at least a minute. That’s the kind of fight people will be talking about the next day. Before the end of the period, the Sound Tigers got one goal back.
Here is the round of fisticuffs:

“That was a really long fight,” Rechlicz said to The Patriot News. “I give credit to the other guy on the other side. He’s a pretty tough kid. He looks small, but he throws pretty hard.”

Gallant played 13 games with the Elmira Jackals this season and 12 games with Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League before getting his AHL gig. In seven games with the Sound Tigers, Gallant has already accumulated 23 penalty minutes.
