Senators Recall Mike Hoffman

The Ottawa Senators have recalled a former Saint John Sea Dog.

The Senators have officially called up Mike Hoffman from the American Hockey League on an "emergency basis" and, according to the Ottawa Sun, is expected to play this evening when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh. Game time is 8pm AST and can be seen on Sportsnet.

The 22-year old has seven goals and 10 assists in 32 games with the AHL’s Binghamton Senators this year. He had seven goals and 18 helpers in 74 regular season games last year with them. He added a marker and eight assists in 19 playoff games, helping Binghamton capture the Calder Cup.

This is the first NHL recall of Hoffman’s career. He was a fifth round pick of the Sens in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

If Hoffman suits up for Ottawa tonight, he will become the third Sea Dog to appear in an NHL game, joining defensemen Yann Sauve and Simon Despres. Both Sauve and Despres played with Hoffman in 2009-10.

Hoffman played as an overager with Saint John in 2009-10, scoring 46 goals and 39 assists in 56 regular season games. He had 11 goals and 13 assists in 21 playoff contests, helping the Sea Dogs reach the President’s Cup final. The Kitchener native will always be remembered for his insanely hard shot.
