SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Connor Donaghey and Andreas Tsogkas along with defenseman Olivier LeBlanc on Wednesday night.

PRE-GAME: Before the game, Maxime Villemaire was named the Sea Dogs player of the month for February. Noah Zilbert was named the student of the month.

NO GOAL: At 7:10 of the first, Alex Micallef took a four-minute high sticking penalty. The Dogs couldn’t get much going until there was about 22 seconds left in the man advantage. Stephen Anderson sent a shot off the post that then went off Maxime Villemaire’s skate and in. It was called a goal, but after a video review, it was determined Villemaire kicked the puck in and was called off. Tough call.

SAAB: Following PEI’s first goal at 14:31, Ian Saab and Victor Provencher got into some rough stuff that saw Saab drop his gloves. The Saint John 20-year old got a roughing penalty and an “abuse of officials” misconduct. Provencher did not get anything.

FIRST: Sea Dogs were out shot 17-7 by the Rocket in the first. Sebastien Auger made some real good saves.

DUFFY: More history for Rocket forward Ben Duffy.

Duffy is now tied with Halifax’s Jonathan Drouin for the league scoring lead with 98 points.

CURRIE: Josh Currie, who sits fourth in the league in scoring with 95 points, was held pointless last night. Currie was a +1 and had one shot. He also went 11/26 on faceoffs.

IZACKY: Jakub Izacky became the first Sea Dog to reach the 20-goal mark this season. He got the Sea Dogs on the board at 7:21 of the second. Izacky is Saint John’s active scoring leader with 34 points in 58 games.

LAPLANTE: Yan-Pavel Laplante, playing in just his 13th game of the season, scored the game-winner at 15:24 of the third period. Laplante now has four goals and four assists this year.

POWER PLAY: Saint John’s power play didn’t look too good last night. They finished the night 0-for-8. PEI went 1-for-4.

VS PEI: The Rocket improved to 6-0-1-0 against the Sea Dogs this season while Saint John fell to 1-6-0-0 against PEI. The Sea Dogs and Rocket meet one more time this season on March 17 in Charlottetown. That is the final game of the regular season.

STANDINGS: So, Sherbrooke is now three points ahead of Saint John. Five games to go.

NOTES: With the Rocket changing their name to the Islanders next season, this was likely the final time the “PEI Rocket” played at Harbour Station… Matej Beran and Yan-Pavel Laplante each had six shots… Maxime Villemaire had two assists and was a +2… Jason Cameron had six shots… Villemaire had a team high five hits… Saint John out hit PEI 15-11... fitting that PEI played Saint John on the night Stompin' Tom died. RIP.
