Tale Of Two Teams

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s trade deadline was on January 8th this season. The Sea Dogs made just one deal on deadline day, but made plenty before it.

Saint John lost key veterans Kevin Gagne, Ryan Tesink, Aidan Kelly, and Stephen MacAulay during the trade period and of course Jonathan Huberdeau left in early December. They also lost quite a few games after the deadline passed.

Here’s a look at Saint John’s numbers before and after January 8th.

Before January 8 (39 games)
Record: 18-21-0-0 (36 points)
Home: 9-12-0-0
Away: 9-9-0-0
Goals for: 112
Goals against: 144
Shots for: 1,089
Shots against: 1,343

After January 8 (29 reg. season games + 4 playoff games)
Record: 5-27-1-0 (11 points)
Home: 4-11-0-0
Away: 1-16-1-0
Goals for: 65
Goals against: 152
Shots for: 862
Shots against: 1,349

The numbers aren’t that surprising but… y’know. The second half was downtown rebuild city.
