Game Day 43: vs Eagles

- For the first time in a long time, the Saint John Sea Dogs will take on the Cape Breton Eagles.

The Sea Dogs and Eagles have met just twice this season and those meetings were way back in mid-October. Both teams have a different look to them now. The Eagles have since added Charles Savoie and Carter McCluskey from Saint John while Connor Trenholm went the other way, joining the Memorial Cup hosts. Those three players will face their former clubs for the first time this evening.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.

Records: The Sea Dogs are 23-15-1-3 for 50 points (third Maritimes/fourth Eastern/seventh QMJHL) while the Eagles are 11-24-3-2 for 27 points (sixth Maritimes/10th Eastern/18th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a big 7-1 win in Halifax on Wednesday. William Villeneuve and Josh Lawrence each scored a pair of goals while singles came from Ryan Francis, Brady Burns and William Dufour. Thomas Couture made 23 saves in the win. The Eagles are coming off a 2-1 overtime win over the Moncton Wildcats on Thursday at Centre 200. Ivan Ivan and Emile Hegarty-Aubin scored for Cape Breton. Remi Delafontaine made 30 stops in the win.

2021-22 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 1-0-0-1 against the Eagles this season while Cape Breton is 1-0-1-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Oct. 16 at TD Station where the Sea Dogs defeated the Eagles 4-3 in overtime. Jeremie Poirier had a hat trick in that game for Saint John while Peter Reynolds scored the overtime winner. Jack Campbell, Jeremy Langlois and Sean Larochelle scored for Cape Breton. Noah Patenaude made 28 stops in the win. Nicolas Ruccia made 29 stops in the loss.

Ex-Sea Dogs on the Eagles: Forwards Nicholas Girouard, Charles Savoie and Carter McCluskey.

Eagle to watch: Nicholas Girouard has a goal and an assist in two meetings against his old club this season.

Random stat: The playoffs aren't looking likely for the Eagles. They currently sit last overall in the league with 27 points and are seven points back of the final playoff spot. They have 28 games remaining.
