Sea Dogs to name captain "soon"

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
Someone will be wearing a 'C' for the Saint John Sea Dogs before the season ends.

"We will name a captain," Sea Dogs president and general manager Trevor Georgie said in an interview with the Seeing Double podcast. "It'll be soon."

Georgie added that, in speaking with head coach Gordie Dwyer, the team wanted to take its time in naming a captain following the plethora of acquisitions made during the holiday trade period.

The Sea Dogs haven't had a captain since Nicolas Guay during the 2019-20 season. Guay was traded mid-season to the Rimouski Oceanic.

Seven different players have worn an 'A' for the Sea Dogs this season: William Villeneuve (43 games), Riley Bezeau (39), Olivier Picard (34), Vincent Sevigny (nine), Christopher Inniss (eight), Yan Kuznetsov (six) and Ryan Francis (two).

One player who hasn't worn an 'A' but is no doubt a candidate for a letter is overage forward Philippe Daoust.

A few other topics discussed on the podcast with Georgie:
  • The current Sea Dogs team and how they've performed since the trade deadline.
  • The upcoming Memorial Cup tournament and what the event will mean for Saint John.
  • Wrestling.
  • The Sea Dogs' partnership with TD.
  • Ball hockey around the Saint John area.
