Game Day 20: at Cape Breton

SYDNEY, NS - The Saint John Sea Dogs return to action tonight, making a one-game trip to Cape Breton to face the Eagles.

This is just the second meeting of the season between the Sea Dogs and Eagles. Back on Nov. 5, Cape Breton defeated a depleted Saint John lineup 4-0 at Centre 200. Saint John's roster should look a little more "normal" when they meet tonight at 7 p.m.

The Eagles have turned their season around over the past few weeks, going 7-3 in their last 10 games. They now sit seven points ahead of the Sea Dogs in the standings.

2022-23 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 5-13-0-1 for 11 points (sixth Maritimes/10th Eastern/18th QMJHL) while the Eagles are 8-10-2-0 for 18 points (fifth Maritimes/ninth Eastern/17th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 5-0 loss in Halifax on Saturday afternoon. Ventsislav Shingarov made 32 saves in the loss. The Eagles are coming off a 4-1 loss in Chicoutimi on Saturday. Ivan Ivan scored Cape Breton's lone goal. Nicolas Ruccia made 40 stops in the loss.

2022-23 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 0-1-0-0 against the Eagles this season while Cape Breton is 1-0-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Nov. 5 in Sydney where the Eagles shutout the Sea Dogs 4-0. Jeremy Langlois, Charles Boutin, Samuel Johnson and Jordan Cote scored for Cape Breton. Oliver Satny stopped all 24 shots he faced in the win. Olivier Brideau made 35 stops in the loss.

Ex-Sea Dogs on the Eagles: Forward Carter McCluskey.

Eagle to watch: Olivier Houde, a seventh-round pick of the Eagles in 2020, is fourth in QMJHL rookie scoring with 16 points in 20 games.

Random stat: The Sea Dogs are just 1-8-0-1 on the road this season. Their lone road win was on opening night in Bathurst (Sept. 25), giving them nine straight road losses.

Notes: Brady Burns leads Saint John in points with 19 and goals with 11... Peter Reynolds still leads Saint John in assists with nine... Samuel Johnson leads Cape Breton in points with 24 and goals with 10... Ivan Ivan leads the Eagles in assists with 15... Cape Breton is 4-3-1-0 at home... the Eagles are averaging 12.80 penalty minutes per game, the second most in the league... Cape Breton is an impressive 6-2-2-0 against Maritimes Division clubs this season... the Eagles have won four straight home games.
