Recap: Sea Dogs lose 5-0

HALIFAX - For a second time this season, the Saint John Sea Dogs were shutout by the Halifax Mooseheads.

Brady Schultz scored a pair of goals to lead the Mooseheads to a 5-0 victory over the Sea Dogs on Saturday afternoon at Scotiabank Centre. Cameron Whynot, Jack Martin and Evan Boucher also scored while Brady James stopped all 25 shots he faced in the shutout victory.

The Mooseheads downed the Sea Dogs 9-4 on Friday night. Earlier this month, on Nov. 6, Halifax shutout a depleted Saint John lineup 7-0.

Ventsislav Shingarov allowed five goals on 37 shots in the loss.

Halifax scored all five of their goals in a second period where they outshot Saint John 19-8.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise (healthy); defensemen Jared Cosman (injury), Charlie DesRoches (injury), Jake Tracey (injury) and Jeremie Richard (injury); and forwards Peter Reynolds (injury) and Tomasz Szczerba (injury).

NOTES: Rookie defenseman Jeremie Richard, who was hurt late in Friday's game, did not play... 17-year-old defenseman Mirko Fernandez, an affiliate player with the Sea Dogs, made his QMJHL debut. He finished a -1... Cam MacDonald had five shots... MacDonald's point streak came to an end at eight games... this was the fourth time this season that the Sea Dogs have been shutout... attendance was 7,068.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs travel to Sydney for a Thursday night meeting with the Cape Breton Eagles.
