Game Day 25: vs Foreurs

SAINT JOHN - After taking on one of the QMJHL's top teams last night, the Saint John Sea Dogs will face the last-place Val-d'Or Foreurs this afternoon.

The Foreurs sit last overall in the QMJHL standings with a 7-16-0-1 record. They've lost all the momentum they generated from a hot start to the season, which included victories in five of their first seven games. They've won two times since that stretch.

Val-d'Or is coming off an overtime win in Charlottetown last night, their first victory since Nov. 11. Today's game will end a three-in-three trip for the Foreurs that also included a Friday night stop in Bathurst.

Game time at TD Station is 3 p.m.

2023-24 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 8-13-1-2 for 19 points (sixth Maritimes/10th Eastern/15th QMJHL) while the Foreurs are 7-16-0-1 for 15 points (fourth West/eighth Western/18th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-0 loss to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies last night. Patrick Leaver made 30 saves in the loss. The Foreurs are coming off a 3-2 overtime win in Charlottetown last night. Alexandre Guy, Nathan Baril and Tomas Cibulka scored for the Foreurs. Emile Beaunoyer made 34 saves in the win.

2023-24 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 1-0-0-0 against the Foreurs this season while Val-d'Or is 0-1-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Oct. 14 in Val-d'Or where the Sea Dogs defeated the Foreurs 5-1. Vince Elie scored twice for Saint John while Nicolas Bilodeau, Eriks Mateiko and Nate Tivey added singles. Tomas Cibulka scored Val-d'Or's lone goal. Justin Robinson made 24 saves in the win. Emile Beaunoyer made 28 stops in the loss.

Foreurs to watch: Tomas Cibulka leads all QMJHL defenseman in points with 26, goals with seven and assists with 19.

Random stat: Val-d'Or is just 1-8-0-0 against Maritimes Division teams this season.
