Metro Halifax’s recap. When your opponent has more goals
than you have shots in a period, it usually doesn’t bode well for your chances
of winning.
The Chronicle Herald’s recap. "They’ve got guys that
have played in the league for a while and they’re very skilled," said
Mooseheads forward Darcy Ashley. "If you give a veteran team like that
chances to score they’re going to score every time. That’s what makes a team
like that good and we have to pay attention to that whenever we play
them."
HalifaxMooseheads.ca’s recap. The Mooseheads came out
flying but couldn't hold off the defending Memorial Cup Champions losing 6-3
before 8,680 at the Metro Centre.

MISSING IN ACTION: The Sea Dogs are slowly starting to
return to full strength. Saint John was without world junior players Tomas
Jurco and Charlie Coyle. Jurco suffered a hip flexor injury in Alberta while
Coyle is expected to arrive in Saint John this week.
Stanislav Galiev (wrist), Ryan Tesink (knee) and Devon
Oliver-Dares (head) were all out with injuries. The newly acquired Maxime
Villemaire has returned home to Quebec.
WELCOME BACK: The return of Jonathan Huberdeau, Nathan
Beaulieu, and Oliver Cooper benefited the Sea Dogs on Saturday night. Huberdeau
and Beaulieu were both away with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey
Championships while Cooper was playing with Team Atlantic at the World Under-17
Hockey Challenge in Windsor, Ont.
Huberdeau, playing his first QMJHL game since November 5,
scored and added an assist in the win. The captain was a +1, had three shots
and four penalty minutes. Beaulieu had two assists, a +1 rating, three shots,
and two penalty minutes. Cooper scored, had a +1 rating, one shot and one hit.
NICE TOUCH: According to Metro Q Files on Twitter,
Mooseheads vice president Brian Uruhart presented a plaque to both Jonathan
Huberdeau and Nathan Beaulieu before the game to honour the bronze medalists.
The Metro Centre crowd gave them a standing ovation.
VS HALIFAX: The Sea Dogs improved to 4-1-0-0
against a strong Mooseheads team this year. Halifax fell to 1-4-0-0.
METRO CENTRE: The Mooseheads dropped their second
straight game at the Halifax Metro Centre with the loss. The Moose have been solid
on home ice and have a record of 16-4-1-1. They have the second most home wins
in the league behind Saint John.
MacKINNON: Nathan MacKinnon was Nathan MacKinnon last
night, scoring twice and earning second star honours. The rookie now has 21
goals this season.
SECOND PERIOD: The Sea Dogs entered the second period
down 2-0 but they quickly turned things around. Saint John scored five times in
the middle frame and entered the third up 5-3.
The Sea Dogs have outscored opponents 82-43 in second
periods this season. 82 of their 188 goals have come in the second stanza. The
Dogs have outscored opponents 49-35 in first periods and have been outscored
54-53 in third periods.
STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs’ win last night gives them 64
points on the year and they now sit 12 points up on the Mooseheads for top spot
in the division. The Dogs have played four more games than Halifax.
Saint John moved back into first-place in the overall
standings. They have a one-point advantage over the Quebec Remparts who have
played four fewer games.
NOTES: Kevin Gagne was named first star of the game. He
had a goal and two assists… Stephen MacAulay, Gagne, Aidan Kelly and Nathan
Beaulieu each had two assists… Zack Phillips had a team high seven shots… Gagne
had three hits… Brendan Duke made his Mooseheads debut. He had three hits and
two shots… Jonathan Huberdeau is on a nine-game point streak… large crowd of
8,680 at the Metro Centre to watch this one.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs host the Memorial Cup hosting Shawinigan
Cataractes this Thursday at 7pm at Harbour Station. It’s a huge game for both
teams. This is the second of four regular season meetings between the two and
the final one that will be played in Saint John.
