It’s the final day of the World Junior Hockey
Championships as Jonathan Huberdeau, Nathan Breaulieu, and Team Canada take on
Finland in the bronze medal game and Russia battles Sweden for the gold.
Team Canada’s game begins at 4:30pm today. TSN’s coverage
of the game begins at 4pm.
According to TSN, “Canada tries to avoid finishing out of
the medals at the tournament for the first time in 14 years when they face
Finland today.”
It’s difficult to predict how Canada will play in a
bronze medal game. Hopefully they’ll have a better showing then they did on
Tuesday against Russia.
Boone Jenner will not play today after being suspended
for his spear in the semi-final game. According to Bob McKenzie, defenseman
Scott Harrington is doubtful and Mark Visentin is expected to start in goal.
USA
Charlie Coyle and the Americans wrapped up the relegation
round with a 2-1 win over Switzerland yesterday in Calgary. The win means that
the US will finish the tournament in a disappointing seventh place.
Coyle had no points, won two faceoffs, and had one shot
on goal.
The former Boston University forward finished the tournament
with four goals, one assist, two penalty minutes, a +2 rating and 19 shots on
goal in six games.
SLOVAKIA
Slovakia’s tournament came to an end yesterday with a 5-2
loss against the Czech Republic.
Tomas Jurco did not play in the game due to a hip flexor
injury. He finished the tournament with one goal, seven assists, four penalty
minutes, a +4 rating and 16 shots on goal in five games. His eight points were
a team high.
