It was announced today that Winnipeg Jets prospect and Westmount, Que. native Yasin Cisse has left Boston University to join the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Cisse, a fifth-round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in 2010, had just two assists in 13 games with the Terriers this season.
So of course, BU head coach Jack Parker had to speak his mind about the situation. The Boston Hockey Blog has a full transcript of the interview, that included these comments when asked Cisse can put up Coyle-like numbers in the QMJHL.
It doesn’t mean [Coyle was] better. [Laughs.] He’s playing against 17-year-olds.
Charlie Coyle was a first-line player here. Cissé was not a first-line player. I don’t think he’ll put up the same production.
I hope he does [succeed]. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he’s a big star and gets to the NHL. It’ll be great for him. But I don’t know if that’s going to happen.
Parker added that “I don’t think anybody can improve better playing in [major] juniors.”
Last March, Parker was not impressed by Coyle leaving or his production in the QMJHL. The Minnesota Wild prospect, who is having a solid season in the American Hockey League this year, put up 38 points in 23 regular season games with the Sea Dogs and added another 34 in 17 playoff matches.
Cisse shouldn’t put up the kind of numbers Coyle did with Saint John last season, but it will be interesting to see how is production is in the QMJHL.
In other news, the Moncton Wildcats signed Penn State recruit Conor Garland today.
