HalifaxMooseheads.ca’s recap. The Mooseheads doubled up
the Saint John Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon in Saint John at Harbour Station.
SCRATCHES: Benjamin Hade (upper body), Jason Seed
(Summerside Western Capitals), Jakub Izacky (healthy), Devon Oliver-Dares
(personal reasons), Mackenzie Brown (knee), Michael Mastrangelo (upper body),
and Jurij Repe (Slovenian junior team) did not play for Saint John on Sunday.
FIRST PERIOD: Halifax was all over Saint John early in
the first, out shooting the Dogs 8-0 at one point. The Dogs climbed back in
shots somewhat as Halifax finished the frame with a 19-7 lead. Halifax scored
twice to lead 2-0 after one.
SECOND PERIOD: Things didn’t get a whole lot better on
the shot clock but they did get better on the scoreboard for the Sea Dogs.
Halifax out shot Saint John 14-7 in the second frame but the Dogs scored twice and
trailed just 3-2 heading into intermission.
GAGNE: Kevin Gagne scored a shorthanded goal at 16:23 of
the middle frame, making it a 3-2 game. It was Gagne’s ninth of the season,
tying a career high he set last year. He now has 30 points in 26 games this season.
The goal also extended his point streak to eight games.
SHORTHANDED: Gagne’s goal was just Saint John’s second
shorthanded marker of the year. They were tied with Shawinigan for the fewest
in the league. It was also the seventh time this season that Halifax allowed a
shorthanded goal.
HUBERDEAU: In what was likely his final game as a Sea
Dog, Jonathan Huberdeau extended his point streak to eight games with an assist
on Gagne’s goal. Heading into world junior camp, the Sea Dogs captain has 16
goals and 29 assists in 30 games. But that’s not what will be remembered from
this game…
THE FIGHT: Well, there probably aren’t many people who
thought Jonathan Huberdeau would end his Sea Dogs career by getting ejected.
But, that is what happened. The whole incident, which involved an altercation
with a linesman and a fight with MacKenzie Weegar, begins at 3:15 mark of the
video below.
Here are all the penalties Huberdeau received.
3 - SNB Jonathan Huberdeau, 15:38 - High-sticking, (1.26)
(PP)

Misconduct, (3.91)
3 - SNB Jonathan Huberdeau, 15:38 - Fight in the final 5
minutes of regulation time, or anytime of the overtime - Game Misconduct, (4.2)
A multiple game suspension is likely on the way. Welp.
Linesman Jay Doiron was hurt after falling to the ice. He
crawled into the penalty box where he was helped by paramedics before being
helped across the ice and down the Sea Dogs tunnel. It was embarrassing to see
some “fans” boo Doiron as he was helped off. Seriously, what are you doing?
MacKINNON: Bit of a quiet game for Nathan MacKinnon. He
had a few good scoring chances and six shots on goal but was held pointless. He
was also a -1.
DROUIN: Jonathan Drouin continued his impressive season
with a goal in this one. He had a goal and three shots yesterday. The draft
eligible forward now has 19 goals and 29 assists in 24 games.
ZILBERT: Rookie Noah Zilbert scored his second goal of the season yesterday. Matthew Highmore picked up an assist. The line of Zilbert, Highmore, and Oliver Cooper should be fun to watch in the second half.

STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs are now two games below the .500
mark with a 14-16-0-0. They are fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 14th
overall in the league. They are six points up on the Cape Breton Screaming
Eagles who are in the division’s basement.
NOTES: The Sea Dogs and Mooseheads meet again on December
21 at Harbour Station… Jonathan Drouin, Nathan MacKinnon, and Jonathan
Huberdeau will now head to Calgary to take part in world junior selection camp…

Leave it to Saint John fans to boo an Jay Doiron...I couldn't believe it!
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck did he do wrong?
It's too bad Huberdeau had to out this way...
Needless to say I lost respect for him...
Booing the linesman was stupid, Fans dont cheer that much for their own team but make noise when a linesman gets hurt.
ReplyDeleteAs for Hubey, its a pathetic way to go, Mastrangelo just got suspended for resisting a referee, so if this follows suit like it should He will be missing the Worlds. Good thinkin on his behalf~
